My favorite non-traditional sauce is a corn and white bean salsa mixed with a vodka sauce and heated to temperature. The flavors meld very well and change the dish from the everyday tomato sauce.

I pretty much use a standard tomato based pasta sauce. Your sauce sounds like a nice alternative. I love pumpkin!!

I don't know whether it's considered non-traditional, but I'd like a mushroom sauce made just with herbs and olive oil.

Kind of an alfredo sauce, but with spinach and artichoke! It's like eating a really rich and creamy dip, just over pasta. Excellent!

I recently tried an all natural vodka sauce and it was amazing! I could really taste the vodka, but it wasn't overpowering. Just the right amount of vodka in a thick, creamy tomato sauce. It was the best vodka sauce I had ever had!

For a really quick pasta sauce, I use a can of cream of mushroom soup, frozen peas and grated parmesan sprinkled with parsley.

I tried using almonds in basil pesto, instead of the more usual pine nuts or walnuts. The texture was different - more creamy. We liked it.

I love to make my own pasta sauce, using fresh ingredients from my garden. I always put in extra vegetables for added taste and nutrition. Next time I will add a little pumpkin or other squash.

My mother makes an amazing spaghetti sauce by simmering carrots and onions and using that as the base. It results in a much less tart "marinara".
