Frozen Foods Make Meals Fast, Delicious and Inexpensive

Food blogger and author Jenny Rosenstrach takes us on a spin through the frozen aisle

The freezer is a working parent’s best friend. Jenny Rosenstrach, blogger and author of Dinner: A Love Story, extolls the virtues of keeping a well-stocked stash of frozen foods in this short video. When the freezer is packed, you always have the building blocks to get dinner on the table, even if you’re tuckered out from a long day of work or play.

Jenny’s tip is timeless: when your recipe calls for out-of-season vegetables or fruits, buying them frozen is a sure way to save money. It’s also a better deal nutritionally: nutrients in your produce are locked in at peak ripeness, packaged just off the fields.

Here are some more freezer-happy ideas:

  • Keep a variety of bags of frozen veggies and grains — say, mushrooms, broccoli, snap peas, brown rice and quinoa — and there’s always an affordable stir-fry in the making.

  • Buy frozen juice concentrate and add water, rather than buying cartons of juice: your tab (and your grocery bags!) will be lighter.

  • Whole Foods Market™ Wood-Fired Pizza is a time- and money-saving alternative to delivery. Buffalo Milk Mozzarella with Cherry Tomatoes, Stracchino and Arugula and Margherita with Cherry Tomatoes are crowd-pleasers.

  • Whole Foods Market™ skillet meals are another winner for dinner. A few favorites include the Italian meals (Penne all'Arrabiatta, Fettucine Alfredo, and Gnocchi Quatro Formaggi) and the Asian meals (General Tso's Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken).

  • Ready-to-cook Whole Catch® Wild Caught Frozen Fish Fillets and Steaks are individually quick frozen and vacuum packed, so use only what you need and save the rest for later. Choose Mahi Mahi Fillets, Monkfish Fillets, Sockeye Salmon Fillets, Turbot Fillets, Tuna Steaks or Swordfish Steaks.

Remember, like all the food we sell, here are no hydrogenated oils and artificial preservatives, flavors and colors in our frozen foods.
