Get Your Pantry Hanukkah Ready

What ingredients do you need to prepare a delicious Hanukkah? Seasonal favorites, like root vegetables, hearty whole grains and a selection of proteins, are always important to have on hand this time of year. Beyond that, here are my top suggestions for outfitting your pantry.

Like all of the products we carry in our stores, these essentials meet our strict quality standards, which require no artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats.

Stocked and loaded for latkes

Mini Potato-Carrot Pancakes with Festive Sour CreamWith no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives, Dr. Praeger's Carrot, Zucchini and Potato Pancakes save time but don’t skimp on taste. Try the Root Vegetable Pancake and the Roasted Corn Cakes too, they’re delicious all year. Look for them in the freezer section.

Also add organic potato pancake mix from Streit's to your list. A premiere purveyor of kosher foods since 1925, family owned and run Streit’s has a strong sense of tradition and understands the importance of using ingredients that meet your standards and ours.

Plan now to get creative with flavor combinations. Think sautéed pears and cinnamon; smoked salmon and capers; chopped brisket; or sautéed mushrooms latkes. Or get big flavor with Mini Potato-Carrot Pancakes with Festive Sour Cream.

For briskets and soup bowls

Roasted Brisket with Parsley, Mint and ThymeSearching for a better broth for brisket recipes and soups? Put Imagine Organic Kosher Chicken Broth on your list. They have a low sodium option, as well. Imagine chooses free-range chickens and organic vegetables and lightly simmers them with herbs and seasoning to make a flavorful organic chicken broth with the same care you would use in your own kitchen.

Try it in Roasted Brisket with Parsley, Mint and Thyme or ladle up that great-tasting goodness with Carrot-Ginger Soup.

Speaking of soups, don’t forget Streit’s Gluten-free Matzo Ball Mix or Gluten-Free Matzo Ball and Soup Mix!

Use your noodle

Mushroom Kale Noodle KugelImported from Israel, Kedem Noodles are made from potatoes and don’t contain wheat, eggs, corn, rice or soy. They’re perfect for Mushroom Kale Noodle Kugel.

Sweet treats

Get a greater gelt with Milk or Dark Chocolate Gelt from Divine Chocolate. Kosher certified, it’s made with the finest responsibly traded cocoa butter, which gives you a tasty advantage and cocoa farmers an equitable deal.

For a unique treat you’ll only find at Whole Foods Market, look for Lily’s Sweets Dark Chocolate Hanukkah-themed Pops in Star of David and Menorah shapes. And there’s a sweet twist -- they’re stevia-sweetened with no sugar added. They’re also Fair Trade certified and enrolled in the Non-GMO Project’s product verification program.

The perfect pour

Go for organic with Avvivo Organic Grape Juice. It’s made with organic grapes and nothing artificial and you’ll only find it at Whole Foods Market.

Kosher bird’s the word

Select stores also offer kosher poultry options from Kosher Valley™ including fresh and frozen whole young turkeys and chickens and freshly ground chicken and turkey options, which are all certified by the Orthodox Union and the K'hal Adath Jeshurun. In addition, our fresh chicken and turkey suppliers are rated according to the 5-Step™ Animal Welfare Rating standards and the animals are raised without antibiotics.

Plan ahead! Search our favorite Hanukkah recipes for inspiration and stock up now on seasonal staples and holiday time savers.

The products above are just a taste of what’s in-store; contact your local Whole Foods Market to find out about their kosher selection.

Are the Kedem noodles dairy free? Also, are any of your fresh turkeys gluten and dairy free? Thank you

@ELLEN - I wasn't able to find an ingredient list on their website (http://www.kedem.com/products.php?id=900431), however, you can call their company directly at 1-800-382-8299 to find out for sure!

I really enjoy your blogs. However, I have a question: my family's favorite turkey "part" is the neck ... is there anywhere you can suggest that I might be able to find extra necks? I'd even order them to be shipped in if I thought it could be done. Last year's Thanksgiving was a disaster because the turkey I bought didn't even have it's own neck included ... so all 3 hungry neck-lovers were without their choice! I'd appreciate any ideas you might have. THANKS!

@SHARON - I would check with your local store first to see if they receive this when they receive their turkeys. If not, I would suggest reaching out to a local butcher shop specifically to see if they can help you out!
