Ground Grass-fed Beef on Sale Friday 9/7

By Jennifer Cheng, August 29, 2012  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Jennifer Cheng

UPDATE: Thanks for all of your questions regarding the percentage of fat for the ground grass-fed beef that will be included in this sale. Each region and store will have varying percentages on sale so you will need to reach out to the store where you plan on shopping that day. You can find their contact information at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/list.

Here’s the beef! Mark your calendar for Friday, September 7. Why? Because on that Friday only all of our US stores will have ground grass-fed beef on sale for $4.99 per pound. If you haven’t tried grass-fed beef before, this is the perfect time to see what everyone’s talking about. The rest of you “seasoned” grass-fed beef lovers can take advantage of this opportunity and stock up! This sale is one day only so you’ve got to stop by our stores on Friday, September 7th to pick some up.

Sale valid in our US stores only, while supplies last. Availability and limits may vary by region, so you can contact your store for details. Most of our stores do not provide rain checks for sales like this.

Here’s what to know about grass-fed beef:

  • Grass-fed beef ranching is not only good for the animals, but involves managing natural resources and supporting local producers.
  • Grass-fed beef is a leaner choice and has a more favorable ratio of omega fatty acids.
  • Grass-fed beef is priced fairly for the producer and is worth every penny.
  • Grass-fed beef is a delicious alternative to grain-fed beef and cooks a little differently.

Whether you’re buying the pasture-raised, naturally flavorful ground grass-fed beef during this sale or you’re buying other cuts of beef from our butchers, you’re getting beef that’s 5-Step™ Animal Welfare rated. That means that our farmer partners are dedicated to improving the lives of farm animals and it also means that you know how the animals were raised for the meat that you’re buying.

If this is your first time cooking grass-fed beef, here are some awesome cooking tips from Liz Pearson, one of our recipe developers and food stylists.

Here are some recipes so you can get set for next Friday’s (that’s 9/7) sale on ground grass-fed beef. Green Chile Cheddar Grass-Fed Beef Burgers, anyone?

Remember, this sale on ground grass-fed beef is one day only, so make sure to mark your calendar and stop by one of our US stores on Friday, September 7th to get some!

@GLORIA - Thanks for your comment! The price is lowered because we are offering this ground grass-fed beef as a one-day sale only. A variety of our stores do offer buffalo, however, note that buffalo is not included in this one-day sale. Check with your local store to see what they offer. You can find their information at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/list.

@MMROSS - Most stores do not provide rain checks for these one-day sales but I would encourage you to reach out to your local store to find out their policies. You can find the contact info for your store at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/list. I also spoke with our Meat Coordinator and there is not a scheduled date for a similar sale at this time. Keep in mind that this is a national sale and that your local store will have store specials, specific to their location and region, that they can tell you all about.

I see on the "beef" page that animals are also fed legumes? This would encompass what types of legumes? I am deathly allergic to peanuts, which are in the legume family. I need to make sure that cattle do not graze on land where peanuts have been farmed, or that they are fed any peanut/nut products or greenery from those plants. I am looking to change to grass fed and free range meat products for health reasons, so I would appreciate a quick response, since the sale is in two days. Great Price!

Last time we tried a one day sale at your Gateway store in Austin, the product was all gone by the time we got off of work. Do you know if there will be enough to buy at 4:30 in the afternoon?

Sounds good, but you don't mention if the grass fed beef has been fed antibiotics or not.

I'm sure Nikki will get to this, but grass-fed beef is low fat. Don't worry about it! And if it's truly grass finished, as they say, then this is superior to what many stores sell....My question, though, why not a sale on other cuts of grass fed and finished beef???

Why present this as if it's a *special* sale? $4.99/lb. for 90/10 ground beef is only one dollar off the regular price.
