25 Ways to Enjoy the "King of Cheese"

We did it! On Saturday, April 16th, we successfully simultaneously cracked open more than 305 wheels of Parmigiano-Reggiano. That’s one wheel for each of our stores….and then some! And to top if off, we unofficially beat the Guinness World Record (which we officially hold from 2008) for most number of wheels of Parmigiano-Reggiano cracked open at the same time. To celebrate this feat, we asked our shoppers, Facebook fans and Twitter followers to share their favorite way to use the ‘King of Cheese’. Here are 25 of the most unique ideas we heard:
  • Sprinkled atop spaghetti mixed with crumbled hard-cooked fried egg
  • Dress up a delivery pizza by grating it on top
  • Fry shavings in a non-stick skillet and eat it like chips
  • Grated atop steamed Brussels sprouts with freshly ground pepper
  • Mix with cracker crumbs or panko for breading on baked pork chops
  • Use the rind when making soups, gravies or sauces
  • Thickly shaved over ANY type of risotto
  • Put a chunk in the center of a meatball....it melts when you cook it!
  • Freshly grated atop sautéed kale
  • Use the rind when making lentils or baked beans
  • Parmigiano-Reggiano crème brûlée
  • Sprinkle atop fresh-baked apple crisp
  • Crumbled into vegetable pancakes and served with crisp pancetta
  • Dress up a bowl of ramen noodles by grating it on top
  • Hollow out a wheel and toss hot pasta inside so it's coated with the cheese
  • Whole wheat penne pasta, butter, sea salt and freshly grated parmesan
  • Tossed with quartered red potatoes that are lightly coated with olive oil
  • Rolled oats cooked with garlic, browned in olive oil, topped with fresh herbs and freshly grated parmesan
  • Freshly grated on top of popcorn
  • Break into chunks, drizzle with honey, oregano, red chili flakes & garlic: grill for 30 seconds
  • Freshly grated over homemade blueberry pie
  • Melted inside a southern country ham & biscuit
  • Freshly grated atop sliced pears and bananas
  • Broiled lobster tails topped with pesto, olive oil and freshly shaved parmesan
  • Freshly grated atop french fries and dusted with red chili flakes

A large plate of farmer's market baby greens, frisee, cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, sliced hard-boiled egg, sliced avocado, candied pecans, and crumbled parm (or freshly grated), lightly drizzled in a fig (or white) balsamic vinegraitte! This is how I treat myself at work! Bon appetit!

The idea of being surrounded by over 300 wheels of parmigiano-reggiano is pretty decadent sounding as are all the listed ides. I like to use it savory muffins with galric and fresh herbs - makes a great light breakfast.

My favourite way to eat Parmigiano Reggiano is simple! I love eating chunks of it with green apple. The boldness of the sour green apple holds it own against the "king of cheese"!

My 12 yr, 5 yr old daughter, 2 1/2 yr old son, and I love just taking chunks of parm and drizzling with honey. This is our favorite dessert!

Once grated sprinkle it forming a VERY thin round and let it melt, then brown lightly .........And I usually immediately very hot out of the skillet I curl it over a rolling pin (just for looks) and when it cools its like a giant tuille. You'll Thank me for it ! I'm sure LOL Every one that give t to and eats it does....! Enjoy ! Yvonne
