Hearst Ranch Grass-fed Beef

This blog post previously contained an outdated video about a supplier. We have removed the video to prevent confusion. We have always believed in and fought for the improvement of welfare for farm animals industry-wide, and all the pork, beef, chicken and turkey in our fresh meat cases comes from producers who have achieved certification to Global Animal Partnership’s 5-Step® Animal Welfare Rating system.

Nestled on the coast of central California next to the famous Hearst Castle, Hearst Ranch combines pristine grassland and true cowboy heritage to raise premium quality all-natural, grass-fed beef. Look for their beef in the meat departments of some of our Southern California stores this summer (see below for details) and take a look at Stephen Hearst’s tips for grilling grass-fed beef.

Just saw Food Inc, I'm surprised more of the bigger meat producers don't incorporate grass in their feed, especially the weeks prior to processing. Not only is it healthier, it can cut the costs associated with all the recalls and diseased meat.

I love to grill one high-quality, grass-fed steak, slice it, and put it on top of a fabulous salad to feed the whole family: http://realfoodrealdeals.com/2012/06/01/mango-avocado-salad-with-sirloin-steak/.

Do you know when this seasons Hearst Ranch Beef will begin showing up in the stores?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@TOM - That will differ between stores. Check with your local store to see if and when they will carry this.

We toured hearst castle and they talked about their meats. I love their idea of keeping them open, free and treated well. They spend time with them until the end. Im seriously considering becoming vegetarian with the occasional high quality meat such as hearst. I would like to know of other companies who do this also.
