There have been so many extraordinary singer/songwriters over the decades, so many of whom I adore. I have to say that "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan always makes me cry no matter the circumstance.

My favorite is Regina Spektor! I love that she sometimes introduces Russian poetry to her songs, and the songs she composes herself are so impressive.

My favorite singer is a very talented young man from the UK, Navin Kundra. He is a British/Asian singer, songwriter, musician who sings in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Arabic. What really impresses me about him is that even with all his amazing talent, he is very humble and down to earth both in person and in his interviews.

Oooh, they're just too many to choose from! I love your choices for the Acoustic Café CD, especially The Waifs and Sarah Jarosz. One of my all time favs for a singer-songwriter choice, however, would have to be Leonard Cohen! I love all the Putumayo CDs, so the prize would be a gift indeed.

Serbian singer-songwriter Djordje Balasevic is my favorite. He started his career with Pop Rock bands but went on to create solo works laced with Folk Music. I think he is a great man because he doesn't have the strongest of voices, but his voice is unique and instantly recognizable. He also used his music to criticize the Yugoslav wars. Many of his songs are very haunting and beautifulm, about love, loss and life. One of my favorite songs is "Ne volim januar." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRg3bgL-9JY
