Whole Chickens on Sale This Friday Only

By Jennifer Cheng, November 7, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Jennifer Cheng
Whole (uncooked) chickens will be on sale this Friday for $1.29 per pound. It’s a one day only sale and there’s a 10 whole chickens per person limit, so make sure you get up early with the roosters on Friday, November 11th to pick up your chicken! $x.xx = amount of savings will vary All of the chicken we sell at Whole Foods Market has been certified to the Global Animal Partnership’s 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating program! That means that the chicken you'll find in our stores had plenty of room to flap their wings, run around, scratch, peck and forage. When you serve our chicken at your table, you’ll be serving chicken raised on a vegetarian diet with no animal by-products in their feed, no solutions or injections and no antibiotics, ever. Federal regulations don’t allow the use of added growth hormones in chicken, but we wouldn’t do that anyway! To me, a whole chicken represents a world of possibility. I’ll never forget the very first time that I proudly pulled a whole roasted chicken out of the oven. Juicy and golden-hued, it was a beautiful sight. I almost didn’t want to eat it (but I’m glad I did)! After you grab a chicken (or 10) during our one-day sale, will you roast it, braise it, fry it or turn it into soup? Here are some recipe ideas to get you thinking and your mouth watering: Baked Maple Chicken with Wild Rice and Bartlett Pear Pilaf Chili and Lime Grilled Chicken Oven-Fried Chicken Coffee-Rubbed Roasted Chicken Home-Style Roasted Chicken with Vegetables Peruvian-Style Roasted Chicken with Sweet Onions Baked Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Whole Grilled Chicken Golden Chicken Broth Grilled Chicken with Fresh Herbs Baked Chicken with Pomegranate Glaze Oh and while you’re in the store admiring our poultry, make sure you order your Thanksgiving turkey! You can stop by our holiday ordering table to order your turkey in-store or order turkeys online at wholefoodsmarket.com/shop. Don’t forget, our one day only sale on whole chickens is this Friday, November 11th!

Vegetarian fed... does that include grain? If so, is the grain GMO or non-GMO?

@Meg Yes indeedy! This is a company wide sale so get up to 10 birds if you have the storage. Shoot, it's been cold enough in CO that you could even store them outside at night. ;)

@Su If the butchers at your store are not overwhelmed trying to fill all the sales day orders, they will be happy to portion your chickens for you. Unfortunately, the sale chickens are not available for pre-order so you will need to go into the store on the dale of the sale to make this request. Thanks for your support!

"That means that the chicken you’ll find in our stores had plenty of room to flap their wings, run around, scratch, peck and forage. " HAD being the operative word here as the chicken is no longer able to do any of that since it's been slaughtered for consumption!
