Win a Care Package for Your Pet

By Rebecca Joerres, July 13, 2010  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Rebecca Joerres
Congratulations to JJ and Adrienne for winning their respective cat and dog each a fantastic care package! And thanks to all of you who submitted a response; you gave us lots of ideas for our own pampered pooches and crafty kitties. Does your dog or cat have a favorite treat? We want to know what it is! Carrots, apples, liverwurst…whatever it is, we want to hear about it. We’re giving away two care packages of healthy treats — one to a randomly selected dog owner and the other to a randomly selected cat owner — just enter your pet’s favorite healthy treat as a comment below by July 21st! What’s that…your pet’s favorites aren’t healthy? Well, we won’t disqualify you. Your pet may need the care package more than others! Tell us what treats they eat now, healthy or not. A little over a year ago, I got a puppy. The week before I picked him up, I researched training treats like crazy. I wanted to make sure he started his life off healthy (and obediently) with treats that were free of byproducts and artificial stuff. Once I got him home, I discovered that not only did he LOVE the treats I’d settled on, but he also LOVED frozen broccoli florets. Nothing beats a refreshing frozen broccoli floret on a hot summer day! What’s your pet’s favorite healthy treat? Enter your comment below by July 21 and you just might win a care package for your pet. Note: The winning pet care packages will be created with an array of these products.

My dogs actually love blueberries! It's my 20 month-old son's favorite food, and he sometimes *accidentally* drops some on the floor. The dogs swarm in to eat them right up!

My dog has a gluten allergy and she can only have carrots as treats. The pet stores and vets always try to give her other stuff but mom brings carrots for them to give her.

My dog thinks she loves carrots, but she'll lick them and leave them. Her favorite treat by far are my brother's home made venison snack sticks. Every fall he cleans out his freezer and gives me the freezerburnt packages (he has to make room for a new batch!). I toss the bad ones, and keep the good snack sticks for Jolie (our lab-pointer mix). For most treats, she sits patiently on the floor wagging her tail. When I get out the snack sticks, she gets excited and has to put her paws on top of the fridge door and watch me get them out.

My cats love coconut oil and dried chicken. They get coconut oil every day, but only dried chicken when we go on trips and they need to be in their crate. :)

Bailey, our 12 year old chocolate lab, loves-loves the smoked bones that I get from our local butcher frozen section. I boil the bone for a few minutes to get the bone marrow out (yuck, hate that job). It helps keep his teeth clean at the same time.

My dogs ADORE cream cheese and peanut butter! Sometimes I'd just dip their treats (California Natural treats) in peanut butter and give to them for double treat! ♥

Whole Foods organically raised Chicken Livers -- my cats LOVE it!! They become blood thirsty little beasts as soon as they smell it -- I cut the liver into small pieces (it's raw, they can handle it) and give them a dish of it each. One container lasts for about 4 or 5 feedings -- they get this about twice a week, no more than that.
