We drink lots of sweet tea and water to stay cool and hydrated in our hot Southern weather! My son has already had his first lemonade stand of the season. It was his idea to set up a table on a day his homeschool friends were coming over to celebrate his birthday. His plan was to donate all the money he made to the local humane society! Unfortunately he didn't make the piles of cash he had anticipated. lol We have put the funds in a marked jar and he is eager to add more to help homeless animals. I would love to win the Lemonade Gift Stand Basket and present it to my son as a reward for being a thoughtful 8 year old who is willing to get a little dirty/sticky for a good cause!

Actually, my favorite summertime beverage is lemonade! I squeeze all of the lemon juice out and add it to the warmed mixture of honey and water. Then I get the seeds out and add more water. I mix it in my Pampered Chef drink mixer. It is so good on a hot day!

We love frozen slushy lemonade. My six year old son just put on his first lemonade AND cupcake stand yesterday. We are trying to teach him about the importance of giving back to the community. We suggested that he might consider giving the money to his favorite charity. He knew just where he wanted to it to go....to a little girl in our community who is battle neuroblasoma, Charlotte Kelley. He raised nearly $20 yesterday. We promise to put the Whole Foods lemonade basket to good use if we win.

My favorite summer drink is fresh cucumber water. First, peel the cucumber and blend with water. Add the juice from 2 or 3 limes, and sweeten with liquid Stevia. Very refreshing, and healthy.

Nothing beats homemade sangria. Go to WF for fresh, locally grown oranges, grapefruit (they have the small delish ones right now), limes and cherries. Add red wine, orange juice and a dash of brandy or orange liquer. Sip.

Amanda Jorjorian says …

I love pink lemonade in the summertime.

Nancy says …

My favorite summer drink is homemade lemonade. My son, now serving our country in Afghanistan, came home from school at the age of 7 with a lemonade recipe. It immediately became a favorite of our family. How 15 years later it still puts a smile on their faces every time I make it (which is really year round). I have made some changes over the years gradually using less sugar...I now use Agave to sweeten it. I add the juice of 6 lemons and 2 oranges (which adds natural sweetness). I always have to make several recipes since they always drink more than one glass. Thank you, Nancy

Jose says …

I wanted to share a great summer drink recipe. This would almost be the the Filipino equivalent of lemonade. I remember my grandmother(lola) making a super refershing melon drink. Lolas Melon Referesher 1 cantaloupe per gallon of purified or spring water organic sugar to taste 6 drops of vanilla extract Take one ripe cantaloupe. Halve and seed. Use a melon shredder or grate the melon. You can find a melon shredder in most Asian stores. You want long strips of melon. Reserve the shreds along with the juice. In a saucepan add 1 cup of water, boil and add sugar to taste. You want a nice syrup with a hint of caramel flavor. Add the vanilla extract. add syrup to the melon shreds. Let steep about 10 to 20 minutes. add to the rest of the water. Taste for sweetness. You want it sweet but not too sweet with a fresh melon flavor with background caramel and vanilla. Truly refersshing especiall with grilled foods. lola we miss you but we remember you everytime we enjoy this drink.

Fill remainder of pitcher with Club Soda Serve from a handpainted glass pitcher that brings back memories of dozens of nights spent with friends, into glassware garnished with whole lemon and orange slices. Best when consumed over conversations on the deck, with the grill going and a strawberry tart standing by.
