During the summer we often have cut fresh fruit to accompany our meals. We freeze the leftovers in small portions. When we're thirsty we put the frozen mixed fruit in the blender, add fruit juice and blend. We recycle our leftovers and quench our thirst at the same time!

Thai watermelon smoothies! When in Thailand last year we had these nearly every day, and we haven't stopped making them since. In a blender just mix cubed watermelon, ice, and simple syrup to taste, blend until smooth-ish but not melty, and enjoy!

My fav summer refresher is to take a bottle of plain seltzer water and squeeze a lemon and a lime into it with plenty of ice. Add a couple teaspoons of Truvia (a plant derivative zero (-0-) calorie sweetner) and you have guiltless, sinless liquid joy!

How fun! My favorite summer beverage is lemonade with fresh lemon slices in side and a few cut strawberries for fun flavor and pretty color! I also love (and drink regularly) unsweet green iced tea. Its so refreshing, especially on a hot Houston day!

After years of contemplating, I finally made my own Homemade Limoncello a few weeks ago. So far it has received rave reviews and I am contemplating making a few recipes with it. I have narrowed it down to Limoncello Cheesecake Bars and Limoncello Tiramisu'. Fortunately my husband and I have many friends who are willing taste-testers! I will let you know the results!

I'd have to say that lemonade is up there on my favorite summer beverages list! But aside from that, smoothies are my summer go-to. A great treat for a hot day that taste good, and fills you up!

I love brewing green tea and then pouring it over frozen fruit (usually some sort of berry...) and ice and then blending to make a green-tea slushy! It's refreshing and healthy!

My favorite is lemonade. Its so wonderful on a hot sticky summer day loaded with ice. My mother had kidney stones and her doctor told her to start drinking lemonade and since she started she has never passed another one! We use spring water, organic sugar and organic lemons most of the time. I like to play with the recipe though and my favorite thing is to add a teaspoon of real vanilla. Mmmmm. My second favorite is Mint Iced Tea. Brew the same # of peppermint teabags as you would for a pitcher of regular tea. Add 1/2-3/4 cup maple syrup to sweeten and serve over ice one cooled to room temp.

We make smoothies almost daily. I buy overripe bananas and keep them in the freezer (unpeeled & in a large freezer bag), and use those as the base with a cup full of Stonyfield vanilla whole milk yogurt. We add protein powder, probiotic powder, vanilla, and chocolate chips. Or, a frozen wild organic blueberry smoothie. We've experimented with lots of flavors--it's something the kids look forward to--and they are great helpers. ;-D (we are hoping to host a fundraising lemonade stand this summer for the Save the Manatees organization--my 8-year-old son's passion)

We love iced tea - green, black, herbal, fruity, spicey, all of it! My kids especailly enjoy experimenting with blending flavors. To add a splash of sweetness, we also make our own simple syrup with organic sugar. For the past two years, they have manned an Iced Tea Stand in our front yard to raise money for one of their teachers who goes to Rwanda and Uganda each summer to teach English to orphans. I love their giving hearts!

2 Fresh Mangos, peeled and cubed, 2 whole limes (juice from), 2 cups of seltzer or club soda and ice. Add all ingrediants to a blender and blend until smooth. Very refreshing......

Teresa Faber says …

We love homemade fresh squeezed lemonade. It is now a huge hit at all our parties - we made some ahead of time to freeze as ice cubes, so that way it does not get watered down. Nothing tastes better on a hot sticky day.

Linda says …

My favorite beverage is my own alcoholic concoction. Dice up watermelon and put in tupperware container. Fill half the amount of the container with watermelon vodka. Freeze overnight and blend to create a smoothy. You may want to add some lemonade if the drink is too strong. Enjoy!

Elena Green says …

On sweltering NY nights I enjoy a lovely mix of Ginger-ale and pineapple nectar. I add frozen cubes off tropical fruit juices made in the ice cream tray for a refreshing smoothie feel. It's surprisingly not too sweet and a thorough thirst quencher. Try it with a spicy taco or Asian theme meal.

Claire says …

Mango tea mixed with a splash of mango lemonade - a mango Arnold Palmer. Yum!

I think my favorite would have to be Sun Tea. Since it gets hot, I rather not subject myself to added heat in the kitchen. Why not let the sun do it's job? Plus, its not to hot, and if I choose to chill it before drinking, I pop it into the freezer before hand.

Virgin (or not) Watermelon Mojitos! in a blender mix a few cups of watermelon, a handful of fresh mint, a few ice cubes, and add almond milk or bourbon (according to your desired consistency) and blend for 20-30 seconds. SO good either way!

This weekend I made Frozen Peach drinks using: Organic Peach Lemonade, Organic Frozen Peaches, Absolut Citron and a little bit of ice. Frozen peachy yumminess. It was very good! I don't know the exact amounts because I made it up on the spot, but I could figure them out if I needed to.

Merita says …

My favorite summer beverage is a recipe that I created for my husband... he loves smoothies but the ones that are sold at chains do not agree with him. I freeze a peeled banana, usually a day in advance. I put it in the blender, add about 1 cup of lowfat milk, 1 tbls sugar, 2 tlbs peanut butter. Blend. It comes out creamy and great. If I have leftover I freeze in popcicle molds.

Kelli says …

I love homemade lemonade. I make it for parties. Basically simple syrup and lemons. Although flavored sun tea is good when not wanting something sweet.

Ashley says …

Nothing beats homemade lemonade or iced tea. I still remember my sister and I standing out by the road with our "saving for college" sign selling lemonade (and that money actually did go toward our college fund!). But living in Texas (and over the age of 21), you've also got to enjoy sangria! Ingredients: orange rum, citrus vodka, pinot grigio, chardonnay, sugar and water. Then add as many yummy fruits from Whole Food as you like! Some of my faves are apples, oranges, strawberries, raspberries, grapes... and really can you go wrong with any of them?

Carrie says …

Thai iced tea... sooo indulgent :)
