I love the pool in the summertime. A great summer day consists of a few sunny hours spent flouting on the pool top and enjoying fabulous summer fruits. One of my favorites is a fragrant cantaloupe cut in half, and filled with sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. It's a delicious way to have a refreshing treat wrapped up in a convenient little fruit bowl!

My favorite "food" to bring is ICE and lots of it!! If you are the one at the end of the day that still has Ice you can make lots of new friends with those that forgot to pack enough. It is usually just me and my hubby but I bring a very large cooler (with wheels). I also make a great home made pasta/ tuna/ veggie (cukes, fz. peas, onion, orange peppers, and cherry tomatoes) with Italian salad dressing (no mayo) which makes a great Pick me up for Lunch. Grapes and iced tea fill out the rest of the meal. (Leaving plenty of room for ICE :)

Emergen-C drink powder makes it really easy to create a healthy drink and allow kids to choose their flavors for the beach - plus there are no sticky juice hands! It's also fun to freeze grapes and bring them along as a cool snack. They taste yummy even when they are thawed. The best way to create a healthy all around snack is to involve every one in selecting the ingredients. This can be done at the whole foods bulk bins (teaching kids not to reach in with hands!). Part of the fun of going to the beach is preparing to go! Yay!!!

It's that time of the year here in South Florida. . .Mango's we take to the beach. Lychees, too and when we picnic all day, a trash can full of ice and water with a bunch of fresh coconuts. The Dad's have the job of drilling a hole and we have extra long straws. .yummie. . .!!!

Kelly Milazzo says …

I like to take dried apples to the beach. There is just something about their texture that has great mouth feel while laying on the beach! Or pack a few of them in your cheek before wading out into the water. I also like salty foods like pretzels. Maybe it's because the sea is salty? Who knows. Since it's hot and sandy I don't want to drink anything sugary which could spill and get sticky. I hit the bottled water pretty hard when outside. Guilty pleasure: gummy bears! Lots of gummy bears! And if you let them sit in the sun for a bit they get really soft and chewy!

Marilyn Caylor says …

Watermelon and other water rich fruits like berries and citrus

Heather says …

My favorite foods to take to the beach are fresh fruit (like watermelon and frozen grapes) and granola.

Sydney says …

When heading to the beach my staples usually include trail mix of some kind and fresh fruit like grapes. Quick finger foods are the best!
