I normally have any of the following out on the table for guests to nibble on while we're cooking/baking/grilling the meal, which may be vegetables with lasagna or with chicken/filet/pork tenderloin (depends on the guests and the time of year): grapes/cherries/strawberries/watermelon, fresh bread/crackers/pita chips, cheeses (brie is a favorite), pistachios, veggies w/ dip, chips, some dark chocolate. For drinks, we usually offer Izze sparkling juice drinks, beer and wine. For dessert, we offer some sort of cake - usually what looks best at the store - fruit tart, chocolate cake or cream pie w/ coffee.
