Win a Trip to Costa Rica!

By Rebecca Joerres, September 15, 2011  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Rebecca Joerres
Do you like tropical adventures, delicious bananas, sustainable agriculture, long walks on the beach, Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain? Then this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss! We’re teaming up with EARTH University to give you a chance to win a trip to Costa Rica to visit EARTH University in Guácimo, Limón. Five winners will embark on a seven-day Costa Rican adventure where they will:
  • Experience, first-hand, how EARTH University is preparing young students to become tomorrow’s leaders in sustainable agriculture, responsible business and community development.
  • Visit with the farmers who produce the rich and creamy EARTH University bananas and learn how their innovative growing methods are helping to save our planet’s precious resources.
  • Explore vibrant Costa Rica, relax on the majestic beaches of Puerto Viejo, sample local cuisine and cruise along the island’s southern coast in search of dolphins.
EARTH University is a nonprofit, international university dedicated to the sustainable development of the tropics through education, research and outreach. Whole Foods Market started selling fresh EARTH University bananas in 2007, then added their fresh pineapples, and was excited to begin offering the new frozen EARTH University Pineapple and EARTH University Banana Chunks in early 2011. The sales of these fresh and frozen fruits help fund scholarships, and finance research and investment in organic and sustainable agriculture. All of Whole Foods Market’s EARTH University offerings are part of our Whole Trade® Guarantee, which ensures fair prices are paid for products, better wages and working conditions for growers and sound environmental practices. Visit the contest page on our website for more details and be sure to enter on that contest page (not in the blog comments) by September 30th, 2011. No purchase necessary!

My wife and I have dreamed about going to Costa Rica for years. A trip to Costa Rica is at the top of both our Bucket Lists and would be a wonderful once in a lifetime experience. In addition, we constantly modify "standard" recipes to include more wholesome and organic ingredients. Any expansion of our options to create more nutritious meals would be most welcome.

This past summer, I went to the Big Island of Hawaii and stayed at a wellness center with water catchment, solar collection, composting, and Aquaponic gardening. It was fascinating and so inspirational. I would learn so much usable information that I could utilize. Costa Rica is a favorite spot for me as well. Would love to return and learn.

Sweet! I love the fact that Earth University is cultivating a responsible, exciting and productive learning environment for students who wish to learn about sustainable farming in the tropics. As an educator, a trip like this would not only be a personal learning experience, but an expierence I can share with my students in class about the importance of maintaining sound environmental practices.

The produce at wholefoodsmarket is so full of flavor and nutrients and when I compared other grocers vegetables for example Kale it lasted only days where as at wholefoods the Kale was so full of deep green color and flavor and less bitter taste and it never came to my mind until a week later that I purchased Kale at another Big grocery chain that i became aware of the difference in texture, taste and flavor that I relize there is a difference!
