Grace Lewis, Customer Service Team Leader
- What does your job title mean?
I’m responsible for ensuring outstanding customer service throughout the entire store as well as training, mentoring and developing a group of Team Members to do whatever it takes to provide world-class service to all our customers, Team Members and vendors
- What's been your career path to Whole Foods Market?
I started out as a part time cashier when the Greenwich, CT store first opened in 1995. I loved the entire opening experience and was blown away by how everyone participated (Regional Presidents, Store Leadership, etc.). I fell in love with our Core Values and quickly implemented them in my everyday life, and I loved interacting with different people and making their shopping experiences great. I eventually became a Front End Supervisor than an Associate Team Leader (ATL). I also helped to open quite a few stores in the New York/New Jersey area. I relocated to the South to get away from the cold weather mostly but also to get away from the hustle and bustle of living in New York, where I lived since migrating from Jamaica. After a few years as an ATL in the South Region, I ventured to Memphis to be the new Team Leader of the Customer Service Team. I have been enjoying mentoring, training and developing team members in the Core Values and culture of Whole Foods Market.
- A Day in the Life
I set up the department and make sure everything looks clean and fresh for the customers. I ensure the team is well informed about any sales or events going on throughout the store and company. Although there really is no “typical” day in the world of Whole Foods Market customer service, we must be ready, willing and able to help customers find whatever they are looking for while giving service with a smile.
- What gets you up in the morning?
I just get up thankful that I have the opportunity to make someone’s day special.
- What advice do you have for people considering joining the Whole Foods Market team?
They should be prepared to take ownership of whatever it is they are doing. Once you join the Whole Foods Market team, the sky is the limit. We offer many different facets in the company--legal, accounting, marketing, visual arts, etc., so people can look to us for many different kinds of opportunities.
