Man “Peter” Fong, Prepared Foods Team Leader
North Miami, Florida
- What does your title mean?
I like to eat…a lot…and I like people a lot, but did I mention I like to eat a lot?
- What’s been your career path at Whole Foods Market?
I was going to college at the University of Miami when I first joined Whole Foods Market as a Prepared Foods Team Member. Since then I’ve been a Prepared Foods Buyer, a Specialty Cheese Buyer, a Specialty Associate Team Leader, and finally Prepared Foods Team Leader. The whole time, I had a super hero support team that believed in me and allowed me to make mistakes.
- A Day in the Life:
Lots of samples from my cooks. Lots of laughing and smiling with my Team Members. A little bit of crying if someone’s getting promoted that day. Some random moments of me dancing in front of my HR Generalist’s office. A few instances of me eating. A few more instances of me eating.
- What gets you up in the morning?
Knowing that today I will make someone smile.
- The Very Best Part of My Job:
All the awesome stories I have gathered and collected over the years. My one-on-ones meetings, mentoring and dialogues with Team Members, leadership, customers and stakeholders all revolve around storytelling. This is how we best connect with each other.
- What do you like most about working at Whole Foods Market?
We are so rich in our culture and deep in our history. We treat Whole Foods Market like a living, breathing entity that we have to take care of and that takes care of us. This is the only company where we stress cultivating people and not profits.
- What advice do you have for people considering joining the Whole Foods Market team?
Just do it. Don’t think about it. You may not succeed right off the bat, but be persistent and open-minded and give yourself permission to grow.
