Ingredient Spotlight: Working with Whole Grains and Whole Grain Flours
Monday, March 30th
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Cooking Classroom, $30 per person

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. One of the easiest switches you can make in the road towards sustainable healthy eating habits is from nutrient-stripped white bread, rice, pasta and flours to fiber-packed, nutrient rich whole grains and whole grain flours. Be it in your bowl of morning oats or your plate of evening pilaf, whole grains fill you up, provide you with protein, and are a great source of many essential nutrients. In this class, we’ll explore the bounty of whole grains and whole grain flours available in our store. We’ll discuss how to select them, cook them, store them and of course enjoy them in a myriad of fresh dishes full of flavor, texture and nutrition. Additional lessons learned in this class include how to substitute whole grain flour for white flours in cooking and baking, how to make homemade crackers, how to make a whole grain pie crust, and how to make a whole grain risotto. This class has hands on opportunities as desired and is suitable for vegetarian customers. Pre-registration is required. Come hungry! On the menu:

  • Brown Rice Horchata (Homemade Rice and Almond Milk)

  • Whole Grain Seeded Crackers with Sweet Pea Hummus
