Help the Whole Kids Foundation do more and apply for a garden or salad bar for your school. Donate at the registers during this important fundraising drive. To celebrate our 10th Anniversary our store would like to donate a $1000 to a local non-profit, $100 for each year we have been open! We want you to help us choose the recipient. For the next 10 days come in and write in a vote for your favorite, local non-profit. To be eligible, the charity must be designated a 501c3 non-profit by the IRS. From this write in voting, we will put the top 10 winners on a list. On September 24, we will hold a one day sweepstakes. The winner will win a $100. gift card for themselves and pick the charity winner from the top ten list.
The goal of this event is to provide families with a fun, hands-on experience of volunteering at the area non-profit, Growing Hope at 922 W. Michigan Ave in . Educate your children about the importance of volunteering. Volunteers of all ages will help Growing Hope prepare gardens for the cool winter months. Following a brief tour or growing hope, volunteer activities will range from thinning the rain garden and painting, to weeding and composting. Learn about the role gardening plays in helping establish a sustainable local food source. Find out about the Garden and Salad Bar Whole Kids Foundation grant program. A collaborative effort from Think Local First, Growing Hope and Whole Foods Market has yielded a four week class series to help established and budding local food entrepreneurs find success. Class one starts with the first step in building and creating a local food based business. Learn what market sectors are ripe for development and determine if your plan has a future. All the basics will be discussed. Guest speakers are Ron Stevens of the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center, Jessica Meissner with Washtenaw County Community and Economic Development, and local food entrepreneur Dave Klingerberger of the Brinery.
