Meet our community partners, the Santa Clara County Library, who will be joining us with the District's Bookmobile  to provide Bookmobile service as well as do an interactive family story time. Story time will be followed by light snacks and a take home craft project.

Whole Foods Market, Cupertino Recipe Contest!

Submit your favorite “value-based” dinner recipe for a chance to win a Whole Foods Market Gift Basket!

Here are the guidelines:

·         The original recipe must be focused on value, meaning the entrée must cost $20 or less to prepare and feed at least 4 people.

·         Use at least 2 “365 Everyday Value products or Health Starts Here products”. All other ingredients must be purchased at Whole Foods Market.

Judging will be based on creativity, ease of preparation, and value. There will be one grand prize winner, and 2 runner-up prizes awarded. All entries are due to mariel.balderas@wholefoods.com with the subject line reading “Recipe Contest Entry” by May 24th, 2014 and the winners will be announced by May 31st, 2014. Health Starts Here compliant recipes are welcome, but it is not a requirement. This contest is being offered by Whole Foods Market, Cupertino and all entries will be judged by Mariel, Culinary Center Director, and Kathleen, Healthy Eating Specialist.

Submissions are through email only. Homemade samples or handwritten recipes will not be accepted. Any recipes submitted after May 24th will not be eligible to win.

Recipe Writing Rules:

 

·         Include a title, number of servings, dollars spent on the entire recipe and 1-2 sentences describing the dish. You may submit a photo with your recipe but it is not required.

·         Ingredients should be listed in the order they are used in the recipe.

·         Use standard measurements, i.e. Cups, Teaspoons Tablespoons.

·         Preparation instructions should be numbered.

·         Salt, pepper and basic spices do not to be calculated into the cost of the recipe.

 

Recipe Costing Tips:

·         Be aware of the cost of each ingredient when you are writing out your recipe.

·         Add up the cost of all ingredients used. For example, if you spent $2.00 on a head of cabbage, but only used half of it, factor in $1 for the entire recipe calculation.

·         All of our grocery items have the cost per ounce of product listed on the price tag! So if an item costs $.10 per ounce, and you use 8oz. of it, or 1 cup, then factor in $.80 for the entire recipe calculation.
