Learn the tricks to properly reheat and hold sauces for service, how to select the right sauce for the right dish, and how to tweak basic sauce recipes for a new take on an old classic. Additional lessons will include how to properly season red meat, how to season a cast iron pan, how to use indirect heat while working with eggs and candy making basics. This class will be taught by Chef Ani. For those that abstain from eating gluten, brunch can be a challenge. Rock and Roll Sushi- SOLD OUT!
Friday, February 8th
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Cooking Classroom, $30

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. Sushi has a rich, deep history. The concept is hundreds of years old, taking advantage of natural resources from its home region of Japan and providing a fix for those who wanted to preserve their supper without refrigeration. To Americans, however, sushi is a new, mysterious thing- becoming popular on the West Coast in the early 1950s, and going from the shores of the Pacific to the shores of the Great Lakes as few as thirty years ago. With any new cuisine comes mystery, and we’re here to delve into the mysteries of sushi- its terminology, the differences between Japanese and American style sushi, how to make great sushi rice and how to form maki, or rolls, in the comfort of your very own home. Each participant will have the opportunity to learn the maki method, then dive in and choose their own fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood to create three maki rolls. After enjoying your delicious homemade sushi, you go home with the bonus of your very own sushi mat for future rolling ventures. This class is hands on, is suitable for gluten free customers and has options for vegetarian and vegan customers. Come hungry!

From Lox to Latkes: Foods of the Jewish Diaspora- SOLD OUT!
Tuesday, February 26th
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Cooking Classroom, $3

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. For many, old recipes and culinary traditions are just as cherished as family stories and photos. Food connects us to our past and enriches our present, which hopefully we’ll be able to pass on to future generations. For many, the diverse flavors and textures of Jewish cooking (whether you’re from a Jewish family or just like to nosh on some deli) are comforting, exciting and satisfying. Join us to learn all about the tangled web of Jewish culinary history, understand what is and isn’t kashrut, or Kosher, and learn to make some of the most popular items that grace the Jewish table. Note: the Whole Foods Market Cooking Classroom is not a kosher kitchen, and thus, this class will not be suitable for those that keep strictly kosher. However, as many kosher products as possible will be used, and as many kosher laws as possible observed. If you have specific questions, please contact Chef Ani at Ani.Loizzo@wholefoods.com . Peak Pick: The Rhapsody of Rhubarb
Wednesday, February 27th
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Cooking Classroom, $25

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. Tart, slightly bitter, and a little mysterious, rhubarb is often used as a fruit, but is botanically 100% vegetable. Though this can make rhubarb a little confusing, its status as fake fruit and versatile vegetable lend allow it to lend a unique flavor and texture to many cold weather dishes. Join us to learn how to select the best rhubarb, how to prep it, store it and take it to sweet or savory depending on your culinary goals. Additional lessons included in the class include how to pickle, make an infused syrup and create a crunchy streusel topping for a crisp or crumble. Class has hands on opportunities as desired. Come hungry! On the menu:

  • Pickled Rhubarb Crostini with Prosciutto de Parma
  • Roasted Rhubarb and Radish Salad with Goat Cheese
  • Lentil Soup with Rhubarb and Dill

Anti-Inflammatory Cooking
Thursday, February 28th

This class will be taught by Chef Jeremy. We can live better stronger lives by learning more about what fuels us: our food. Limiting certain ingredients in your diet is a great way to reduce or control inflammation.

Why? Many food ingredients contain allergens that have a cumulatively toxic effect on your body and can hurt your digestive health over time. We will uncover the top ten culprits and discuss how to do a self-analysis to determine if or how they affect you. Learn what ails you. This class is gluten free and can be vegetarian or vegan upon request. On the menu:

  • Apple spiced Quinoa Porridge
  • Strawberry & Pineapple Smoothie
  • Salad of Kale and Carrots with Adzuki Beans and Lemon
  • Sweet and Sour with Caramelized Pineapple and Chicken

Outside Dining Area, Free

Give the Earth some love by turning your trash into someone else’s treasure, or find treasure that was someone else’s trash! Electronics recycling has never been easier. Most electronics contain toxic metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium. If any of these contaminants get into our rivers, streams or lakes, they can harm our health and damage the environment. Today, on Earth Day, is the perfect time to recycle or repurpose!

Recycle: Drop off your old electronics here at our store, and we’ll recycle them for you, thanks to our friends at Ewaste Recyclers located here in Edina! Bring in your computers, monitors, printers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, telephone systems, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stereo components and more! Check out the complete list of accepted items here: http://ewaste-recyclers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Website-Listing-of-Accepted-Items.pdf

Repurpose: Are your electronics in good working condition but just aren’t used anymore? Or are you just looking for a functional VCR to play some VHS tapes that you just can’t seem to part with? No problem! This is also a repurpose drive!

Give the Earth some love by turning your trash into someone else’s treasure, or find treasure that was someone else’s trash! Electronics recycling has never been easier.
