On Tuesday, July 16, the Gene Siskel Fim Center, 164 N. State St., the only movie theater in the Chicago's Loop Theatre District, will be hosting it first-ever Neighborhood Night as a welcome to workers, visitors, and most notably area residents to experience the unique cinema. Attendees will enjoy being a member for the night paying only $6 per screening and a reception courtesy of Whole Foods Market. A variety of movies is contained within one evening from Stanley Kubrick's classic Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb starring Peter Sellers, to 60s and 70's excess in Paul Raymond biopic, The Look of Love directed by Michael Winterbottom and starring Steve Coogan, to animation Grave of the Fireflies by Japan's noted Studio Ghibi, concerning the plight of two young children who lose their mother in a World War II air raid. This year, explore items from the estate of Richard B. Ogilvie, Governor of Illinois from 1969 to 1972, engage your inner child with a variety of charming pop-ups and paper dolls, or ignite your imagination with a vast collection of science fiction magazines. With most items priced at $2 and under, Book Fair is one of the cheapest ways to refresh your summer reading list. All proceeds benefit the Newberry Library.
