August 2 is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.

With its different textures and temperatures, the ice cream sandwich is a treat that satisfies more than one of the senses.

It’s unclear who we have to thank for this portable dessert, but we’re grateful nonetheless. Depending on where you are in the world, your ice cream sandwich can look very different from what Americans are used to. Some other countries use wafers, cake or even profiteroles instead of cookies for the top and bottom layers.

The beauty of the ice cream sandwich is that it’s very easy to make. If you’re going to bake your own cookies for the treat, make sure they’re bigger and flatter than normal so they don’t break apart. The ice cream to cookie ratio is key as well: too much ice cream, in this instance, will leave you with a mess on your hands.

Ice cream sandwiches can be easily assembled by kids or dressed up by adults. They make for a great interactive dessert after an elaborate dinner. Bake a variety of cookies and have a few different ice creams on hand and guests can practice their sandwich artistry. There’s nothing like feeling like a kid again!

Time to to enter that seed-spitting contest - August 3 is National Watermelon Day!

Summer is prime time to get your mouthful of watermelon before this seasonal fruit (or is it a vegetable?) rolls away - or explodes?!?

If you're feeling creative, experiment with other ways to get your watermelon on with these mouthwatering recipes. Chomping down not your style? You can even crush it up for a thirst-quenching way to escape the summer swelter.

Besides having an exciting effect on people, watermelon has also been associated with ... vampires? Cue the glitter and field full of flowers!

Apparently vampire watermelons "develop" when left on the ground after ten days. Then, they roll around and wreak general havoc.

So before you go to bed, you might want to go all "fruit ninja" on those possible blood-suckers springing up in the garden patch, just sayin'.

Chip, chip hooray! - August 4 is National Chocolate Chips Day!

Chopping up a chocolate bar into little morsels and putting them in a batch of cookie dough may be one of the best ideas Ruth Graves Wakefield of the Toll House Inn ever had. Since we don't know dear Ruth, it's safe to say that chocolate chip cookies are one of the best American creations to date.

But don't stop with cookies! You can pop these in pancakes, waffles, crêpes, pies, muffins, cakes or just pop them in your mouth right out of the bag (we aren't ones to judge). Or how about 100 ways to use chocolate chips to whet your inspirational appetite?

If your own prized cookie recipe requires the attendance of all-important chocolate chips, carry on! Otherwise, you may want to take a gander at this fine rendition from iReporter Cynthia Falardeau's grandmother:

Grandma Carr's Chocolate Chip Cookies
3 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
2 sticks of sweet cream butter
3/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
3/4 cup of granular sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons of real vanilla extract
1 bag of jumbo semi-sweet chunks or jumbo chips
1 cup of nuts, M&M’s, coconut or Heath chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, soda and salt; set aside. Combine the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Mix dry and wet ingredients together. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minute until lightly brown. Cool for one minute on baking sheet and then remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Now we've just got one more question for ya: Got milk?
