Whole Kids Foundation
Whole Kids Foundation is dedicated to helping kids eat better—and enjoy it!
Founded by Whole Foods Market, this nonprofit organization is guided by the same values, principles, expertise and standards for quality ingredients, food production methods and nutrition.
Whole Kids Foundation’s mission is to support schools and inspire families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness. This is accomplished through a range of innovative partnerships and programs, including:
Healthy Fun for Families
Whole Kids Foundation provides free resources and activities for families and teachers – all designed to help parents start healthy conversations at home and pack more nutrition and fun into every bite. These activities include hands-on crafts, Kids Book Club and Better Bites – a tool suggesting one small change for huge nutritional impact. They also provide easy recipes and the Awesome Eats app free on Droid, iOS and Windows. Play your way to healthy conversation
School Garden Grant Program
The Whole Kids Foundation School Garden Grant Program, created in partnership with FoodCorps, has funded more than 2,100 school garden grants across the US and Canada since 2011. The application window opens each fall. Grants are awarded each spring.
School Salad Bar Program
Through partnership with Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, Whole Kids Foundation established the School Salad Bar Program, which has granted more than 3,450 salad bars to school cafeterias, serving more than 2 million children across the US. Kids with access to a salad bar at school consume three times the vegetable and fruits as children without.
Healthy Teachers Program
Healthy teachers inspire healthy kids! The Whole Kids Foundation Healthy Teachers Program empowers educators to improve their personal health and wellness through nutrition so they can be the healthiest possible role models for our students. This program promotes simple healthy eating principles through a series of nutrition and cooking education and has trained more than 4,000 teachers in the first year!
