During Earth Month, we held a behind-the-scenes contest for our store marketing teams, inviting them to create store displays promoting our Whole Trade® produce, our Green Mission, our Eco-Scale Rating System for household cleaners or seafood sustainability. The displays had to be made using only repurposed waste materials from the store. The point was to lessen our environmental impact and to show you, our customers, how we really do try to make every day Earth Day. Boy did our hard-working store marketing teams deliver!
With 38 entries, all impossibly charming in their own way, the judges were hard-pressed to choose a favorite. But it was a contest and a winner had to be chosen. We judged entries based on the creative use of recycled materials, their visual appeal and the effectiveness of the messaging. It didn’t take the judges long to determine that the entry from our Lexington Green (Kentucky) store took the (crab) cake.
Just imagine shopping under the benevolent gaze of these large fish made from coffee sleeves, cardboard boxes, foil scraps from wine bottle seals, scrap plastic and plywood.
