Off the Grid – The Curious Adventures of Kirk Lombard: Sea forager and haiku improv master Kirk Lombard is the ultimate potluck invite. In episode one, he fishes off Pacifica Pier in San Francisco to bring home some Golden Gate crab for the wife. Or some monkey-faced eel. Or a bit of both.
The Last Supper: Julie Green’s art gives pause. The Last Supper is a series of ceramic plates illustrating final meal requests in the United States. She’s painted 500 plates so far, and adds more each year. She’ll continue painting these plates until capital punishment is no longer. It’s art-making as question-asking.
The Rituals Of Kumar Pallana: Granted, there might be a few things that he can’t do, but this much is certain: Kumar Pallana can do an awful lot of things, and he’s really, really cool. The guy can juggle, spin plates and do a handstand on a chair that’s balanced on some bottles. He knows a bunch of yoga moves — he used to teach it — and he’s always showing up in Wes Anderson movies. “Without the concentration, you can do nothing,” he says. “My soul is my guru; my experience is my guru.” He says that too. Find out what all the fuss is about. It’s Kumar Pallana, age 94.
