Come and meet Becky Libourel Diamond, Local Author of: Mrs. Goodfellow: The Story of America's First Cooking School
Philadelphia has always been known as the site of many of our nation’s historic firsts. What most people don’t know, however, is that it was also the home of a culinary pioneer, and savvy business woman, Elizabeth Goodfellow (1768-1851). She was already a world-famous pastry chef and caterer to the elite when she opened the first cooking school in the United States! Truly a visionary, she taught the importance of simple, wholesome, local ingredients in the early 19th century.
Becky Diamond makes her come alive through her delicious recipes. They have survived and been translated into modern measurements and ingredient names.
Becky will be signing copies of her book and make two of Mrs. Goodfellow’s most famous recipes: her meltingly tender and addictive Jumble Cookies as well as her Indian Pound Cake.
