There's a lot of healthy stuff in such a tiny snack. Nuts contain monounsaturated fat (known as the good kind of fat), fiber, protein, antioxidants and minerals. Research also shows that nuts can help lower your cholesterol and protect your heart.
While technically not all of the nuts that we think about in the culinary sense of the word are true nuts in the botanical sense (peanuts are a type of pea, brazil nuts are actually seeds and walnuts are really drupes, for example), we think that they still deserve celebrating on National Nut Day.
