Travelers to Italy may be surprised at the diversity of its regional cuisine. We invite you to spend two delicious culinary evenings with our native Italian cooking instructor exploring dishes from southern Italy. Each night a complete rustic Italian meal featuring an entree, side dish and dessert will be prepared and enjoyed together. Week one includes "braciole" (sliced beef rolled up with garlic, pine nuts and parsley, then braised in a red wine and tomato sauce and served over penne pasta), broccoli rabe (sauteed with garlic and chilis) and "crema al limone" (homemade cream custard with eggs and lemon zest, topped with fresh berries). Week two includes "merluzzo alla Siciliana" (cod fillets baked in a red tomato based broth with wine, olives, capers, fresh herbs and bread crumbs, served with warm potato salad tossed with olives, anchovies, capers and a white wine and lemon vinaigrette), steamed broccoletti (with garlic and lemon juice) and a fig tart (topped with walnuts). This class is held in the Cooking and Lifestyles Classroom at Whole Foods Market, 3135 Washtenaw Ave., in Ann Arbor. Students may register on-line through www.wccnet.edu
