A Black Velvet, traditionally made with Guinness and Champagne, was first created in London in 1861 to mourn the death of Prince Albert. Adding a drizzle of homemade Black Licorice Syrup (and richly flavored oatmeal or chocolate stout) creates a molasses-scented elixir that’s anything but somber.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup stout, preferably oatmeal or chocolate, chilled
  • 1 teaspoon Black Licorice Syrup, chilled
  • 1/4 cup dry sparkling wine, chilled
  • Black licorice strip for garnish (optional)
