Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting

Frosts one 8- or 9-inch layer cake

Butter cream frostings like this one are a perfect match for Strawberry Cake or Carob Cake. Simply omit the frosting in the original recipe and replace it with this vanilla version, if you like.

  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 (1-pound) box powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Using an electric mixer, cream butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Sift in sugar and continue to cream until light and fluffy. Add milk and vanilla extract and blend completely.
