Champion Cherry Recipes
We just can’t get enough of cherries, and their short growing season means obtaining these juicy globes is even sweeter. From classic pies to savory dishes, cherries are one of summer’s best fruits.
While many people tend to group them in with berries, cherries are actually stone fruits (in the same family as plums and peaches). Cherries are generally divided into sweet and tart varieties. Rainier and Bing are just two of the sweet varieties, often hailing from Washington or Michigan.
Cherries come in a variety of colors, but look for fruit that is vibrant with smooth, taut skin. Store cherries unwashed in the refrigerator, and wash only just before eating. If you plan on using cherries for more than just snacking, a cherry pitter is a good investment to save time!
Cherry recipes are a great addition to any summer meal. Try them in a healthy breakfast or consider cherries as the sweet-tart ingredient to elevate your dinner. Cherries are especially good with meats, so try them with some of our favorite protein-packed dishes.
