A little bit about us:

Anthony and Susan Harnett purchased the first Bread & Circus store in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1975. The first Bread & Circus sold natural foods and wooden toys, hence the unusual name. Our store opened in 1979 and was followed by the Wellesley store in 1980. At the time of its acquisition by Whole Foods Market in 1992, Bread & Circus was the largest natural food retailer in the Northeast.

The Prospect Street store is not only one of the longest running Whole Foods Markets in the region, but in the country! Prospect Street is a cozy and bustling neighborhood market: we are the "Original Cambridge Store." Because our store is smaller than most, you can be sure to get the freshest of everything due to a high turnover of product. Talk to our educated, friendly staff and see how easy shopping can be! Bring your compost and recyclables to our public recycling center in the rear of the parking lot - just another way to go green at Whole Foods Market!

Where to find us:

We are located approximately 2 blocks north of Massachusetts Avenue and 2 blocks south of Broadway, in Central Square, Cambridge. Central Square is located on the MBTA Red Line and easily accessable by the many bus routes that run along Massachusetts Avenue.

Did you remember your reusable bag?

Whole Foods Market will no longer use plastic bags to pack your groceries. Help us reduce waste. We'll give you 5 cents for every bag you bring in to use when you shop.
