Community Giving
It all started with one of the worst floods in Austin, Texas history, back in 1981 at the original Whole Foods Market. We knew that our neighbors loved to shop at our all-natural supermarket, but we didn't know how much our community relied on our store until the flood caused so much damage our founders were ready to close up shop. That is until the morning's customers and neighbors filtered in and, met with an un-shoppable store, joined the staff to repair and clean up the damage.
That was many years (and over 270 stores) ago, but Whole Foods Market has never lost sight of the important partnership that exists between a store and the community in which it does business. That is why our company's Core Values guide us to give back to our local communities. Whole Foods Market Evanston South is proud to serve the Evanston and Rogers Park neighborhoods by sponsoring community events, donating to local non-profits and providing education to everyone who surrounds our store in exchange for the opportunity to do business here.
Give Back this Holiday Season
The following in-store donation programs will run from mid-November through the end of December.
Bag Hunger: Purchase a $10 bag of pantry staples for a hungry family in our community, or bring your own non-perishables to drop in the donation bin near the checkout. Benefits Connections for the Homeless, which fills the pantry of Hilda's Place, Evanston's only homeless shelter.
Giving Tree: Stop by our Giving Tree display near the Customer Service desk to pick up a hand-made ornament from the kids at Family Matters. Each ornament contains a gift request from a family in need.
Winter Clothes Collection: Donate new or gently used winter wear (coats, boots, thermal underwear, hats, gloves, etc.) to individuals and families in need in our community. Heartland Alliance will set up bins near the customer service desk.
Deserving Dinners: Whole Foods Market locations across the Midwest are helping make the holidays a little better. You can nominate a family to receive a free holiday dinner for four people. We will run two rounds of entries to those deserving to win either a Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday meal. Each store will provide four families with a traditional holiday feast with all the fixings. Enter online or at any Whole Foods Market location.
Donation Applications
We offer four main types of assistance to local non-profit organizations. Please review the following options and click on the links to download an application. Donation guidelines are listed on each application, but please note that all donation applications must be received at least six weeks prior to the event or time of pick-up.
This application is for all general donations, including product donation or items for auction.
We offer all customers 10 cents for every bag they reuse. They can choose do donate their bag refund to a designated non-profit organization through the One Dime at a Time Program.
Four times per year, Whole Foods Market Evanston South donates 5% of a chosen day's net sales to a local non-profit organization. The Community Support Day is a large-scale partnership, and applications may not be considered immediately but will be kept on file.
Whole Foods Market Evanston South partners with local schools and non-profits to provide a 5% discount on group purchases of gift cards to be sold as a fundraiser for the organization.
