Gimme 5
Gimme 5 is a recycling collaboration between Whole Foods Market and Preserve. Products packaged in #5 plastic are sold widely, but #5 is not recycled in most communities. A Preserve Gimme 5 bin is in both of our Indiana Whole Foods Market stores for customers to recycle their #5s and used Brita cartridge filters. Please thoroughly clean all of your #5s before bringing them to the stores. By collecting #5 plastic in our communities and sending it to Preserve, you’re helping us limit the environmental footprint of this material and giving it a second life as new and useful products. One Dime at a Time: JuneWhole Foods Market offers 10¢ per bag to customers who reuse their own bags. Customers can accept their refund, or direct the cashier to donate the cash to the store's chosen non-profit – through the One Dime at a Time program. This program reduces our impact on the environment and supports a local non-profit.
The Indiana stores are delighted to support June’s recipient: the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership (ARPO). ARPO is a local all breed pet rescue group funded solely by donations and is staffed entirely by volunteers. ARPO does not have a shelter but instead houses pets in need in temporary foster homes where they are fully vetted and live fulfilled lives while waiting for their forever homes. ARPO also does community outreach that focuses on decreasing the number of companion animals surrendered to and euthanized at shelters. If you would like more information on becoming a foster parent or other ways to volunteer, visit www.adoptarpo.orgRemember to visit our stores on Saturday, June 27th with your furry friend for our Dog Wash & Pet Adoption Day to benefit the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership!
Save the Planet While Lunching: A Better BagTM 80% Recycled, 100% Reusable
That's right...you can make an impact and help save our planet. Really! Here's one way to start: Pack your lunch in a reusable bag. Easy and effective. If you stop throwing out a paper sack every day, that adds up. We've got you thinking, don't we?
Reusing means you're not only using stuff again, it means less energy is being used to make more stuff. And that means you are keeping waste out of our landfills, less energy from being processed and less resources from being consumed - all from bringing a reusable lunch bag. Talk about not taking much to make quite an impact.
Now, keep thinking with us. You're using that lunch bag again and again. Know what else you're doing? Saving money. That's right! A penny saved is a penny earned and you just proved it. Reusing is an eco-nomical thing to do too.
Happy Saving-The-Planet-During-Lunch!
About A Better BagTM
Whole Foods Market® teamed up with pop music icon and environmental activist Sheryl Crow to create a special edition of our signature reusable shopping bag, A Better BagTM. These bags are made from 80 percent post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. In fact each bag represents approximately two or three 20-ounce plastic bottles depending on the size of the bag you choose.
"I am a big believer in doing what you can, even if it's something as small as reducing the amount of plastic we each use daily that ends up in landfills, whether it is plastic bags, water bottles or product packaging. I'm so happy to be working with Whole Foods Market on this project."
- Sheryl Crow
As part of the continued efforts to care for our communities and environment, Whole Foods Market® and Sheryl Crow are using this campaign to help raise awareness for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and its Simple Steps program. Whole Foods Market® made a donation to the NRDC in support of their initiative and each bag bears the SimpleSteps.org web address encouraging shoppers to learn more about how they can get involved.
