Located at the crossroads of El Segundo and Manhattan Beach, PCH straddles the beach lifestyle of the South Bay community and the friendliest business city in Los Angeles County. El Segundo has the second highest concentration of fortune 500 companies in California, behind San Francisco, yet is only just over 5 square miles in size. El Segundo's daytime population is 70,000, and its residential population is 16,000. Many of these business people live in the South Bay communities of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo, and Torrance, making Sepulveda Blvd. a major thorough fair. But don't be fooled by the all the high-rises; El Segundo is where Main Street meets Wall Street. Stroll down Main Street El Segundo to visit a small, quaint beach town which seems to have been forgotten by the changing times of L.A.

Whole Foods Market Plaza El Segundo (PCH) coined its motto from the town of El Segundo. In 1911, 5 men arrived to this area, surveying the second site for Standard Oil. One of the man's wife, Virginia Hannah, coined the area El Segundo (the second), as their first refinery in Point Richmond was christened El Primero (the first). Some years later, citizens of El Segundo nicknamed it El Segundo a nada, second to none.

A visit to our store is sure to impress all 5 senses. We offer a full service flower shop, grilled vegetables and fruits for pick up or order, and a full service coffee juice bar, and this is just the entrance! Let the tea bar relax and calm you, as you sip elixirs, fresh brewed teas, and flowers. Bill’s Grill is located next to the meat and seafood departments, where you can order any of our ready-to-cook items grilled and prepared right there on the spot! Enjoy the game with a glass of beer, a burger or steak, and the great company of our friendly Team Members. We also boast of an in-house smoker, offering smoked beef brisket, turkey, chicken, and other delights daily. Moving around the back alley, you won’t want to miss our wine bar, where Friday and Saturday nights we host wine tastings, and Sunday evenings are devoted to beer tastings. Our prepared food options are immense, including a churrascaria /taqueria and sushi bar. Our Bakery will astound the sweet tooth in you, with a gelato bar, rice pudding bar, and truffles from around the world.

LEED®

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a non-profit organization composed of leaders from across the building industry working to advance buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Driving its mission to transform the built environment is the Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™. LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED CI) addresses the specifics of tenant spaces primarily in office, retail and institutional buildings. Whole Foods Market, Southern Pacific Region recently established a goal to pursue LEED CI certification for its new stores.

LEED is a point based system where projects earn LEED points for satisfying specific green building criteria. Within each of the six LEED credit categories, projects must satisfy particular prerequisites and earn points. The six categories include:

Innovation in Design (projects can earn ID points for green building innovations)

The Whole Foods Market Plaza El Segundo Store has incorporated the following LEED criteria:

Sustainable Sites

The store's roof is considered "cool" - reflecting the sun's rays and deflecting the heat absorbed by typical dark-colored roofs.
The landscaping is not watered with potable water. Instead, it utilizes municipally-provided reclaimed water (i.e. wastewater that has been treated by the local municipality).

Water Efficiencies

The plumbing fixtures in the bathrooms are considered "low flow" - they reduce water consumption by more than 40% as compared to conventional fixtures.

For example, the urinals in the men's bathroom require no water. Waterless urinals are considered to be more sanitary than their conventional counterparts.

Energy & Atmosphere

The store's highly efficient HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) systems are free of ozone depleting CFC-based refrigerants.
Skylights are located throughout the store to minimize the amount of electric lighting needed. In addition, daylight-responsive lighting controls have been installed so that the skylights and electric lights can "speak to each other" - when there is a sufficient amount of daylight in a certain area of the store, the electric lights nearby dim, or shutoff altogether.
A majority of the kitchen and office appliances in the store (computers, refrigerators, etc) are Energy Star™ rated.
Whole Foods Market is a prominent supporter of Green Power and has worked with Renewable Choice Energy to purchase renewable energy credits to offset the electricity used in this store.

Materials & Resources

Whole Foods Market team members and customers are encouraged to recycle and compost whenever possible. Receptacles are widely accessible throughout the store.
75% of the waste generated during the construction of this store was diverted from the landfill, and instead sent to a recycling facility.
Many materials in the store contain recycled content and/or were manufactured locally.

For example, the tile used in the Seafood area is from Oceanside Glasstile, a San Diego-based company that uses, among other things, bottles from curbside recycling programs, to create their product.

Some of the decorative wall hangings are made of Sorghum waste scraps, which would have otherwise been incinerated.
A significant amount of wood in this store was certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. The Forest Stewardship Council ensures that forests are sustainably managed. Please visit www.fscus.org for more details on FSC certification.

Indoor Environmental Quality

Paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants throughout the store where chosen for their low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content. Low VOC products are less toxic than their conventional counterparts.
The store has implemented a green housekeeping plan in order to ensure that the janitorial practices and products used are safe for the environment as well as the occupants of the building.
