January
Gluten Free Cooking Class with Jules Shepard!
JULES COOKING CLASSES HAVE BEEN POSTPONED AT OUR STORE UNTIL JANUARY,
HOWEVER!! SHE IS TEACHING AT THE ANNAPOLIS WHOLE FOODS MARKET ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14TH 11AM-1:30PM!
Jules is the founder of www.nearlynormalcooking.com and a diagnosed Celiac herself. Class will start at 1pm and their will be free product samples, recipe cards and coupons to take home. There will be lots of yummy food to taste and you can see how each is made so you feel confident making it at home. After the class, Jules will answer any questions you may have about gluten-free cooking.
Please note: There will be a $40 fee for Jules' class. You must register and pay the fee at her website at www.julesglutenfree.com
If you've attended a gluten-free cooking class with Jules Shepard, or have heard about them, you are no doubt aware of the fun, informative and delicious experience she inimitably bakes up for each class. The only limitation on the whole experience thus far has been the physical size of the room accommodating all those wishing to participate. And while we pride ourselves on offering as many free services to the community as possible, the quality and popularity of Jules' classes has necessitated our charging for future classes. That's because we find ourselves competing on Jules' schedule with classes she teaches all over the country for which she charges admission. To continue to offer these popular and informative classes as a service to our customers, we must do the same. Jules will also be donating a portion of each ticket price to further the pioneering work of the University of Maryland Center for Celiac Research.
We hope you've already put what you've learned at Jules' last class to use. We look forward to seeing you at the November class, when Jules will be demonstrating all new dishes!
Space is limited so reservations are a must. In addition to signing up with Jules, please email Jessica.baer@wholefoods.comJules E. D. Shepard is the author of Nearly Normal Cooking for Gluten-Free Eating, and the recently released The First Year: Celiac Disease and Living Gluten-Free: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed. She is also a spokesperson for the University of Maryland's Center for Celiac Research.

New Artwork in Our Cafe
Look for fresh, new art in our "gallery" café, brought to us by a great area nonprofit: Empowered Women International. The Empowered Women International Gallery at Whole Foods Market Fair Lakes features artists from our area who have participated in a special program through the nonprofit to teach women and immigrant women how to start and maintain a business based on their creativity. There is also a gallery in the city of Alexandria. For more information on how to get involved, visit www.ewint.org .
Whole Foods Market's Commitment To Local
Stop by any of our stores this summer and you're sure to see an increase in our local products. We're situated in a great spot to get the best of what the area has to offer, so check it out and you may just find a new favorite product - made in your neighborhood! These local products aren't limited to our produce department either: we have spice rubs, cheeses, meats and coffee, plus prepared foods make with local product. You can taste and see the difference when you taste these local goodies!
Recycle Your Old Cell Phones with Secure the Call!
Please bring your old cell phones to be recycled and keep them from ending up in a landfill. Secure the Call is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that takes your donated phone and redistributes free used cell phones to the community for the purpose of calling 911 in the case of an emergency. The organization carefully wipes out all of your personal information on your cell phone, then reprograms it so that the phone can call 911 only, then tests them to make sure they work before shipping them out. The phones are distributed to partner organizations such as women's shelters, senior citizen centers, sheriff & police departments as well as school systems.
A note about classes, food demonstrations and events:
Activities posted in this calendar are subject to change. Classes may be cancelled if there is insufficient registration. A demo may end sooner than noted, due to product availability. For Kid's Club classes, children must be accompanied by an adult and there are no age requirements; that is left to the parents' discretion depending on the activity.
