5-Step Animal Welfare Rating Program
Our 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating Program enables customers to understand precisely how the meats they are buying have been raised and treated. A team of expert Welfare Auditors will confirm treatment in rigorous third-party audits of individual farms to Whole Foods Market’s exacting standards.
This auditing system is unique to Whole Foods Market and is extremely important to the company. To find out more, enquire at the butcher’s counter for an explanation of our standards.
The system is based on a tier structure. The goal of this program is to create an incentive for farmers to continuously improve their animal welfare practices. While this is an incredibly exciting start, we plan on bringing all producers to the highest level over time.
We have employed a Specialist Welfare Consultant to support us in sourcing our meats. We will continue this proactive approach as we work in partnership with our suppliers to continually improve animal welfare in keeping with the latest information and advice.

Cheese and Wine Festive Master classes

Many describe Martyn as the Big Cheese when it comes to all things fromage here at the store.
In these informal sessions you will have the opportunity to sample many cheeses and to try them with perfectly paired wine, beer or port samples.
- November 18th
French Cheese tour with Martyn featuring Baked Vacheren. 7pm in our "Room with a View" - £10.
- December 4th
Fine wine encounter with Peter: Peter will guide you through a Port master class. 7pm in our "Room With a View" - £10
- December 16th
Christmas Cheese master class with Martyn: Featuring the perfect cheese board, storing, preparing and eating. 7pm in our "Room With a View" - £10

You'll learn 'how to roast the perfect turkey' from our Head Chef Gerry at his carving station, you can join our Cheese specialist, Martyn for a Blue Cheese Tour. Or simply sample your favourite christmas foodie ingredients and find plenty of gift ideas for your friends and family from the 30 suppliers attending on the day!
