Community Giving
At Whole Foods Market, we are active participants in our community. We are extremely proud of our involvement and the relationships that we develop. We strive to make a difference and through our charitable giving, we supported over 125 local organizations last year.
Community Charitable Giving
Whole Foods Market Newtonville is proud to support the local community. Some ways in which we give to the community include:
General Gift Card
Our most common form of giving is in the form of a gift card. We provide gift cards to nonprofit organizations for use as a fundraising auction items or as a way to purchase refreshments for fundraising events. To be considered for a gift card, an organization must fill out and submit a Donation Application 60-90 days in advance of an event.
Our 5% Days are another meaningful way we give back to our community. On designated days throughout the year a total of 5% of the day's net sales are donated to local non-profit organizations. Customers help support our selected organizations just by shopping on these 5% Days. Recent organizations benefitting from this program include: Share Our Strength, the Newton Food Pantry, The John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club, and Massachusetts Advocates for Children Autism Special Services Center.
Register Donations
Every month at our registers, we feature a local nonprofit agency and customers can choose to donate to the organization. At the end of the month, we tally the donations and send a check to the not for profit.. Past recipients of register donations include: the Newton Food Pantry, Newton Pride Committee, Against the Tide, Project Bread, Green Decade Newton, Federation of MA Farmer's Markets, The Lunch Box Revolution, Springwell Senior Services.
Community Service
Every year we send dozens of volunteers to local fundraisers or charitable events. Past events we have attended include Newton Serves, Heartbreak Hill International Youth Race Pasta Party, MS Walk, Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, Aids Walk, MA Breast Cancer Coalition Against the Tide, Hospice of the Good Shepherd Big Feat Memorial Walk, and the Chilly Half Marathon to benfit the American Liver Foundation.
Product Donations
Every week we donate safe and edible food from our shelves to local food pantries and not-for profit organizations. Recent recipients include the Learning Prep School, Bristol Lodge, Newton Food Pantry, Roxbury Food Cupboard, Rosie's Place, Lynn City Mission, Newton Senior Center, The Second Step, Foundation for Fighting Blindness Vision Walk.
