First Friday Art Opening -- Fieldwork: Unearthing Stories of North Carolina Agriculture
6:00 - 7:00 pm
Join us for this First Friday Art Reception and enjoy the exhibition, "Fieldwork: Unearthing Stories of North Carolina Agriculture," which features photographs and narratives of a few of the thousands of people who provide food to people in the Triangle area. The exhibit grew out of an idea that Sage and Swift Catering owner Amy Tornquist developed once she started purchasing from local and organic farmers. She wanted to get those growers' stories told, and she has teamed up with Professor Charlie Thompson of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University to bring this idea to fruition. Seeing an opportunity for an even broader scope in the project, Professor Thompson connected it with his class "Farmworkers in NC", taught in partnership with Student Action with Farmworkers.
The result is a broad-reaching portrayal of what is right and wrong about our agricultural system. The goal of the exhibit is to encourage people to experience food as an entity composed of many peoples' stories. Works on view through the month of July.Wine and cheese provided by our Specialty Department. This special event will also include live music on our patio.
