Our Produce Cooking Class Series: More About Greens

This month we will focus on the Brassica family, a group of vegetables packed with vitamins, minerals & antioxidants. Learn the basic techniques for preparing Brussels sprouts, bok choy, broccoli rabe & the cabbages taught by Lisa Pattman. Each week will feature a new green along with recipes & tastes!

Preserve Gimme 5 recycling!
Preserve Gimme 5 program gives shoppers a convenient drop-off location for containers often not accepted at municipal recycling centers. Collecting #5 plastic in stores and sending it to Preserve will limit the environmental footprint of this material and give it a second life as a new and useful Preserve product.
Polypropylene #5 is a strong, lightweight, food-grade, easy-to-recycle plastic. Common #5 plastics include packaging for yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, ricotta cheese, margarine and hummus containers; medicine bottles; some plastic ice cream containers; and food storage and take-out containers. The number 5 should be plainly marked on the bottom of the container.
Additionally, the Preserve Gimme 5 program accepts Brita(R) water pitcher filters for recycling. Brita(R) pitcher filters can be deposited in Gimme 5 bins along with other #5 plastic. Instructions for drying and submitting these filters can be found at http://www.preserveproducts.com/ .

Whole Food Market's Parmigiano Reggiano Wheel cracking event
3:00PM in our Specialty Dept. | Details
At 3PM, every Whole Foods Market store in the U.S., Canada & the U.K. will simultaneously crack a wheel of our parmigiano reggiano. We broke the Guinness World record last time & we'll likely break it again on February 27th! Our cheesemongers will demonstrate the ancient art of "cracking open" a wheel of this magnificient cheese using the traditional method that preserves its salty, crunchy, crumbly internal crystalline structure, which is left intact. Parmigiano Reggiano samples and recipe ideas will also be offered.Afterwards, join us for a sampling of parm inspired recipes throughout the store.
