We're Cracking a Parm
3:00pm-3:30pm FREE
Whole Foods Market will cap a month-long celebration of one of Italy's most famous culinary jewels, Parmigiano Reggiano, with an in-store grand finale that will honor the tradition behind the "king of cheese" while highlighting what it has to offer. We will provide samples and recipes while attempting to break our own world record for simultaneously "cracking open" hundreds of hand-selected wheels of 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano wheels. Demo Guy JP will assist our Specialty Team as they demonstrate the art of breaking into this spectacular cheese with the traditional method that preserves its salty, crunchy, crumbly internal crystalline structure. To find our more about this exquisite cheese, tune in to our national cheese buyer Cathy Strange's interview at The Cheesefreak.com. which was recorded here at our store in December 2009. Cathy discusses the cheesemaking process from start to finish and goes into detail about the uniqueness of Parmigiano Reggiano at Whole Foods Market. And, if you want to know even more, you can also read Cathy's blog entry!

Our "Farmstand" is open 8:00am-10:00pm
Our friends Sara and Gideon Porth at Atlas Farm in South Deerfield are busily planning for next season already; it won't be long before their first lettuces begin to arrive. But, we are still receiving a few produce items from Chris Kurth of Siena Farms in Sudbury, MA; this week we expect to have parsnips and a variety of cabbages. In addition, we've got some other local produce which arrives here via our Regional Distribution Center in Cheshire, CT, which is very convenient for many of the farmers in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts.Be a Local yourself this week and make a hearty stew or a pot roast with Northeast-raised beef which usually arrives just in time for the weekend! There should still be some Maine potatoes left in Produce, too. Maybe serve it with a salad topped with chunks of fresh chevre made in Sterling by Ann Starbard at Crystal Brook Farm. Add a loaf of artisan-baked bread from Pain D'Avignon Bakery in Hyannis or Nashoba Brook Bakery in West Concord and you're all set.
Many other local products can also be found in our aisles- Cindy's Kitchen's Dressings from Brockton in our Produce Department, Bear Pond Pestos and dips and Stonewall Kitchen Jams in Specialty, Number 9 Salsa in Grocery... and, one of your favorites, Taza Chocoalte from nearby Somerville! So stop in and see what you find and please ask if you don't see the I'm a Local signage!

Feed Kids Now!
Throughout the year, Whole Foods Market Symphony offers shoppers the opportunity to purchase pre-packed bags of food and bodycare products to be donated to the Preventive Food Pantry at Boston Medical Center. By providing food, education in nutrition, and cooking demonstrations to nearly 5,000 patients per month, BMC is able to effectively fight against the ravages of malnutrition and hunger with both preventive and therapeutic measures. The bags of food you purchase are used by participants in different programs at BMC including the Grow Clinic which treats children with Failure to Thrive (FTT). Look for our display of brown paperbags with the white and red "Stop Children's Hunger" sign located near the last register in our store.
