Gimme 5 Comes to Wynnewood!

Great news for people who like to recycle! Whole Foods Market Wynnewood is pleased to be now recycling #5 plastic.  This #5 plastic is commonly used in containers for yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus, medicine bottles, etc.  Your containers must be rinsed clean in order to be recycled.  We are also accepting Preserve toothbrushes and razors as well as Brita water filters for the Gimme 5 program.  The clean containers may have to be stored for several weeks in a warehouse which is why it is so important for them to be clean.  We'll send the plastic to Preserve, who make recycled household products including toothbrushes, razors, tableware, and kitchen products. When they get it, the plastic is ground up and turned into clean plastic pellets. The pellets are then sent to Preserve's manufacturing facilities to be transformed into new Preserve products. Obviously, when you choose to purchase Preserve stuff that closes the loop on the whole recycling chain. How cool is that?  Please bring your clean #5 plastics to the store, the bin is conveniently located in the dairy section next to the egg case, or you can drop them off at customer service.  Thanks!

Recycle Your Old Cell Phones With Secure The Call

Please bring your old cell phones to be recycled and keep them from ending up in a land fill. Secure The Call is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that takes your donated phone and redistributes free used cell phones to the community for the purpose of calling 911 in the case of an emergency. The organization carefully wipes out all of your personal information on your cell phone, then reprograms it so that the phone to call 911-only, and tests them to make sure they work before shipping them out. The phones are distributed to partner organizations such as women's shelters, senior citizen centers, sheriff and police departments and school systems.
