8 Money-Saving Tips for Summer Grilling

Grilled Tuna Kabobs With Peach Mango Salsa Recipe

Whether it’s a dinner for two or a backyard bash for 20, you can enjoy summer’s best grilled flavors on a budget. Here are eight of our favorite tips.

  1. Maximum meat for the moolah. Look for better pricing on less-popular cuts such as boneless sirloin, flat-iron steak or skirt steak. Grill these leaner cuts hot and fast, and then slice thin against the grain.
  2. Put overspending on ice. Choose our vacuum-packed frozen fish – pre-marinated, seasoned or unseasoned. Look for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified-sustainable choices!
  3. Go wild. Serve wild-caught Alaska salmon without overspending by cutting it into chunks and serving over a greens and grains such as Mediterranean Orzo Salad.
  4. Grilled goodness. Fill up plates with grilled summer squash, corn, peppers and onions. Grilling intensifies their natural sweetness and flavor. Serve over pasta or grain salads.
  5. Spread the love. Go organic in your condiment cabinet without going broke. Choose 365 Everyday Value® Organic Ketchup, Relish and Dijon, Yellow or German Mustard. (My favorite recent discovery is 365 Everyday Value® Organic Sweet Sabi Mustard. And I’ve always got one of the 365 Everyday Value® Organic Regional Barbecue Sauces on hand.)
  6. Fruity finish. Use your fire to its finish by throwing fruit on the grill. Serve grilled peaches with 365 Everyday Value® Organic Ice Cream or drizzle pineapple with honey before grilling.
  7. Befriend your butcher and fishmonger. They’ll share tips for the right cuts at the right price and other ways to save.
  8. Don’t let condiments go to waste. Every last drop, dash and scoop counts! Shake up homemade dressings, marinades and glazes in your mustard jar. Stir salsa into ground meat for burgers. And replace red sauce with barbeque sauce on your homemade grilled pizzas.
