GMO: Your Right to Know

By Paige Brady, September 20, 2013  |  Meet the Blogger  |  More Posts by Paige Brady

Whole Foods Market® is committed to full transparency when it comes to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). By 2018 every product in our U.S. and Canadian stores will be labeled to indicate whether they include GMOs. In this video, Whole Foods Market team members, including Co-CEO Walter Robb and President A.C. Gallo, discuss the specifics of our GMO labeling initiative, as well as outline strategies that shoppers can use right now in our stores if they want to avoid purchasing products that contain GMOs.

Learn more about our progress toward full transparency labeling in this post by Whole Foods Market President A.C. Gallo.

Hello, I am thrilled with Whole Foods and what you have been doing about GMO's. I have been doing a letter campaign, as well as, reading their information points. I do organic because of allergies and sensitivity to product additives. Anything but pure sugar tears my stomach, antibiotics and most additives causes intestinal problems. There is no way I am comfortable eating GMO products. Thank you for your support and I appreciate how you take care of your customers. Sandra L Barnes

I appreciate that Whole Foods is making an effort to label GMO products. But why wait until 2018? Please try to get it done a soon as possible. I will not buy any foods that contain GMO.

So, what you're saying is, we shouldn't shop at Whole Foods until 2018? Bravo.

Is your "365 Organic Tea Bags" processed with any pesticides?..or tea bags bleached ? Is any chemical processed happening with these teas?

@HOPE - Our tea bags are made from wood pulp and compostable raw materials (hardwoods and softwoods) that are “bleached” using either Elemental Chlorine Free and/or Totally Chlorine Free processes. The bags are sealed using a pressurized heat sealing machine that uses no glue or adhesive.

Congratulations Whole Foods on taking the right stand on labelling GMO products! We have, over the past year, moved totally off ANY GMO or NON-ORGANIC foods and most supermarkets here in Canada seem slow to make the move to labelling or banning GMO foods.

I was shocked to see Truvia is being sold at Whole Foods. Cargill who makes Truvia is one of the most well-known suppliers of GMO-based products and the corn they use to make Truvia is GMO based. Please get it out of your stores!

You just purchased New Frontiers Health food stores in northern Az. I am very pleased that you are going to force your suppliers to ID GMO. You have my support. Good Luck
