BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN High Hopes

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

High Hopes

How can an album be retrospective and forward-looking at the same time? Take perennial favorites from Bruce’s live shows, add a few cover songs (some new, some familiar), fill out some well-known acoustic arrangements and give them all the full studio treatment. Bruce brings guitarist/producer Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine along for the ride to, as he puts it, “jolt these songs into the now.” The result is electrifying, anthemic, thought-provoking and haunting. Check out the video opens in a new tab for the title track.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé

The stealth-release in December of Beyoncé may have given some the idea her latest effort wasn’t worth much fanfare. Nothing could be further from the truth. Edgy, dark, funny and sexy, this mood-creating work signals a confident new path for an artist at the top of her game.

That Girl

Sugarland may be on hiatus, but the duo’s leading lady is on fire! The feisty single, “That Girl,” expresses surprising emotional depth with her trademark room-filling vocals and catchy hooks. This is her most personal album yet, featuring songwriting collaborations with Sara Bareilles, Butch Walker and Richard Marx.

With this release, the Coen Brothers have again created an instantly classic soundtrack. (Think O, Brother Where Art Thou?) Bringing together a remarkable group of talent, including Justin Timberlake, Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Stark Sands, this critically-acclaimed album perfectly captures the Greenwich Village music scene of the 60s. The previously unreleased version of Bob Dylan’s “Farewell” is reason enough to grab this CD.

And there you have it! Six new releases to get your new year on the right track. Tune in for more new music next month.
