The perfect Mother's Day would be brunch at Whole Foods, so not only do I NOT have to cook, but I don't have to clean! Other good ideas for moms you can't physically bring to the store: The almond body oil from the whole body section, and some soy candles, for a complete relaxation package.

Carol Epstein says …

My son gave me a $25 Whole foods giftcard for my birthday last June and I went in and got myself a Tahitian Gardenia gift set from Pacifica, which included a soy candle, body butter and natural soap. I loved it! I even posted a pic of it on Flickr. I'd love a giftcard from Whole Foods any day of the year, and Mother's Day is right around the corner so I hope all my children read this!

At least in Atlanta, the heirloom tomatoes get my thumbs up. Mom is a fan of gluten free selections, among them the Wheat Free Flax waffles. The 365 beans are a staple since we're vegetarians...the 365 chips are nice too!!

Courtney says …

SONOMA CHICKEN SALAD!! I ALWAYS BRING IT TO OUTDOOR CONCERTS IN THE SUMMER WITH MINI WHOLE WHEAT PITAS.....always the best thing there by far!!

Sharon says …

I love everything about Whole Foods, especially the prepared foods department and the pastries! I have used Whole Foods pastries for several showers that I have given and they always get rave reviews! My family also loves the jumble cookies!

Albert Lee says …

The 365 brand soda is amazing! I never feel guilty when I open a can of soda from whole foods because I know it has less sugar than the manufactured brands!

Elaine says …

I love coming to Whole Foods and just browsing the aisles. I always discover new things to try. Thanks for the contest :)

i have a loooong list of whole foods favorites. but when it's time to celebrate *me*?? whole foods organic french roast coffee tops the list. what mom doesn't need a pick me up now and then? LOL. my other selections would be: fresh freesia, tulips and ranunculus from the floral section, 365 dark chocolate truffles, burt's bees milk and honey lotion, and a nice round of brie, a loaf of fresh-baked whole grain french bread, and medjool dates!

For mothers day, I recommend a personal "Better Bag" filled with stuff to help mom relax and enjoy her special day. Each bag could be customized but I suggest...one bottle of organic wine-Fairhills Cabernet Sauvignon or a T-sac with a soothing tea blend with chamomile or lemongrass, one Dagoba Lemon Ginger bar, a couple of whole foods soy candles, a bar of Dr. Bonner's lavender soap or even better a Lavendar-Mint Zum bar, Alba Sugar Scrub, and a copy of a great book or magazine to read while relaxing. I like this so much this is what my mom is getting this year...I hope she likes it! I know I would!

Jaime says …

The homemade desserts in the bakery are second to none. My mom loves the fruit tarts and napoleons the most. I'll be stopping by to pick some up on my way to visit her!

Sommer Wall says …

I love to hit the bulk foods and the bulk spices because you always get the amount you need and it is cheaper than purchasing a packaged product. Not only that, you use less packaging. I never need an entire bottle of most spices so shopping in the bulk spices allows me to purchase the amount I need for the recipe I am making.

My kids are always hungry it seems, and hungry kids in the grocery store is difficult. So we love to stop by the Soup/Salad area and pick up 2 mini loaves of fresh bread. At 99¢ each, it makes a good and filling snack to occupy them while mommy continues to shop!

Paola says …

I lOVE WHOLE FOODS! Any mom would be delighted to receive your beautiful calla lilies and orchids. I love all of the 365 products, Zen soy puddings, bakery products and your fresh produce. The cheese selection is great and your products are always a healthy choice for us, the hungry ones. I also love the concept of the FEED 100 bag! Whole Foods is my friend. = )

The perfect way to celebrate my mom will include my visit home from Chicago to see her & my dad in Traverse City, Michigan (the cherry capital of the world). My mom loves chocolate & cherries, and so I'll bring home some homemade yummy organic cherry scones & some of the chocolate covered cherries from whole foods. We'll have a nice breakfast together (that my dad & I will prepare for her) and then we'll go into town together to shop & then visit the local wineries for a wine tasting event. My mom loves whole foods, but there is not one up there in Northern Michigan, and so I plan to deliver her a gift basket filled with her favorite non-perishable WF items.

EM says …

A SIGG bottle with a reusable grocery bag would be a nice gift, or a basket with chocolate truffles, gourmet gumdrops, and a selection of fruit spreads with a scone mix. Another idea would be a beautiful and delicious fruit tart from the bakery.

Dena says …

So tough to pick a favorite...I think that Sambazon Original Acai smoothie paks make great healthy and satisfying popsicles. A perfect afternoon or after dinner treat! Also, don't miss the Shasha spelt ginger snap cookies, but be careful, it's easy to eat the entire container...

Pamela J says …

I love the flowers they smell so nice and last so much longer then other places. i love the selection of cheeses, im in love with the bulk season section. when ever i feel like making something new and it calls for something i have never used i dont have to buy a bunch and get stuck with it when i dont like the dish. i just love everything about whole foods. dont let me forget the soy candles, there the greatest.

Corinne says …

I have to recommend Barbara's Bakery Snackimals animal cookies in chocolate chip flavor. YUM! These are the healthiest chocolate chip cookies I think you can buy.. and yummy to boot! :)

Marty Leitner says …

I travel from St. Charles to the Town & Country store. The meat is the best! One thing I miss are the toffee(?) scones - my son and I go crazy over those! I don't buy much in the way of canned/dry goods, but do buy produce, dairy, fresh bread and cat food regularly. Thanks for being a great option!

Renee says …

My son has sensitive skin and he and I both LOVE the California Baby products! I use the products also!

Lisa Kifer says …

Hands down, the best product you carry for the price, taste, quality, and convenience is the 365 Whole Wheat Tortilla. I can get a pack of them for $1.39 here in western Pennsylvania. Love them! They are great for wraps and also for individual pizzas. As for a splurge, the all butter pound cake, especially made into a fruit parfait at the bakery, is to die for! I used to be able to find my favorite coffee, Raven's Brew-Brewin' Blend, but my local store doesn't seem to have it anymore. I miss that :(. It sure would be great if PA allowed wine to be sold...I have to go to Ohio for that. Thanks for great mac-n-cheese on the food bar and awesome Greek Dressing for my salad. I do buy healthy stuff too, but Mother's Day is about indulgence!

Tara says …

I really like the salad bar. So many yummy choices. Oh, and the sushi too :)

Barbara Sears says …

Whole Foods has been long over due in Santa Cruz. I've shopped there so much I feel I am making up for lost time. :) The grass fed ground beef is the best I have ever had. The seafood department has killer crab cakes and fish. Peace, Barb

My mother (74 years old) is from India. When we came, Indian food was nonexistent back in the 60's. Although I was born here, I still love Indian foods. Since my mother is not a prolific cook anymore, we go to Whole foods to buy the Crave Samosas. Since most samosa dont taste to authentic, my mother and I feel like when we eat Crave Samosas it brings us back to our younger days. I think about the days of watching my young vibrant beutiful mom cook samosas from scratch. Those were the days we crave.

Those Kuumba made fragrant oils in the makeup department are wonderful. Scents that don't come from a natural source always make me lightheaded or feel sick. These are made with herbs and flowers and because they are infused in oil I can put a small amount on and the fragrance lasts a long long time but its never overpowering like conventional perfumes.

Sue says …

I love the 365 Cola. Nothing tastes better on a hot day than an ice cold 365 Cola with real cane sugar!

EAKThomas says …

I live in Summerville and STILL make the trek to Whole Foods several times a month because I love it so much! One of my favorite parts of the store is the fresh salad bar, simply because it's not your typical salad bar! There's so much variety in everything- the greens, the toppings, meats...even the dressings are delicious and different! And of course, everything is so fresh! Thanks for such a great place to shop- and get a fresh lunch!

Amanda says …

while I am not a mother, I celebrate my mom every chance I get! My best whole food pick to celebrate motherhood? Sunflowers. WF is one of the only places I can find them. Not only do they show mom how much she brightens my life, but they are also a taste of Italy, our family's heritage, where the sunflower fields seem never ending.

Connie says …

This is the time to splurge on the items that Mom won't buy for herself. Get all of the natural cosmetics, special organic chocolates and grill her up a grass-fed beef steak!!! Yum!

Karen Oyler says …

Bell & Evans chicken patties are a favorite with my son. Great taste and quality all at once. To finish off the meal, you need 365 brand crinkle cut fries. Bake to satisfaction (and for food safety :-P ) is the way to go. Thanks for the yummy foods! It helps cooking for the family go a lot easier. (But those cinnamon rolls are just too yummy....TOO yummy!)

Stephanie Carr says …

My very favorite products from Whole Foods are The Laughing Giraffe and Lydia's Organics raw/gluten-free collections. It is SO NICE to be able to find ready made foods that are in line with my diet. Whole Foods really is a life saver! As for the fun stuff, I love the mineral bath, Steaz Iced Teas, Larabars, the curry chicken salad ya'll make and coconut milk ice cream! : )

Sue says …

My pick is the fresh fish counter. I grew up in Maine but have lived in Colorado for over 15 years. When Whole Foods opened here I have gone back to my fish eating ways. I not only enjoy eating the products but I enjoy every trip to the counter where the staff knows how fresh fish should look and smell. They are eager to share their cooking secrets and so am I! My husband just picked up a pound of salmon and a pound of sole today. Fresh fish, it's what's for dinner!

Emily says …

My mom absolutely loves the Burts Bees line. The royal jelly is great. It really makes your legs shine! Anything from Burts Bees is wonderful.

Michelle Green says …

My mom loves the 365 brand cleaning products. The grapefruit surface cleaner smells as good as it cleans!

Jacquie says …

I am not fortunate enough to have Whole Foods in my town so I must travel 3 hours to pamper myself with your fabulous market. When I get to "mecca" I induldge in anything from your deli and of course the bakery! I also buy a bunch of flowers which make me smile all the way home! Please come to Springfield, MO.

Dawn says …

My first pick would be the produce. I love your produce!! I can always count on it being really fresh and organic. We Love the beets! They are a great immune booster for good health. Second, the bulk section where I can always get my organic whole grains which are a daily part of our diet keeping us all healthy every day. Treats for us would be the hormone and antibiotic free ice cream and cheese. Keeping myself and my family healthy is a big part of my mom duties. When my kids are happy and healthy then so am I. That is a great gift!!

Larissa P says …

I think my mom would love for someone to cook her dinner for a week. What about offering personal grocery shopping for healthy meals for a week or even local personal chefs who will do the cooking? By the way, I just moved to be closer to the Whole Foods in my area...one block away, dream location!!

Emily Meltzer says …

Anything from the prepared food section would make for a fantastic Mother's Day picnic! And on the same note, anything from the fresh bakery would be great for a Mother's Day Breakfast in Bed!

Vanessa Hyldkrog says …

I LOVE WHOLE FOODS !!! I like everything in the store . I really like the WELEDA lavender body oil , perfumes, and soaps, seventh generation lavender detergent the best, Nature Gates Jojoba shampoo & conditioner , Jason lavender deodorant, and all 365 products .

Suzanne Trickel says …

My family loves the trail mix bar - having kids with food allergies, I can control what they get and they get trail mix. Something that they can't normally have because of having a nut allergy. We were SO excited to see so many nutritional shake mixes that don't have artificial sweeteners - YEAH! You rock Whole Foods.

Tara Douglas says …

We can't get enough of the 365 crackers. They are perfect for the kids' lunches. Cheese crackers, pb crackers, etc. My personal favorite is the Vegan General Tso's in the prepared food section. My son always asks for my General Tso's. Sometimes I share... ;)

Krista says …

My mom and I absolutely love any of the vegan cakes in the Whole Foods bakery section. We also love Uncle Eddies peanut butter chocolate chip cookies and we can't resist any of Amy's pizza's too.

Peggy W says …

Whenever we go on vacation one of the first things we look for is the local Whole Foods. We really loved visiting the Chicago store...they roasted fresh coffee righ in the store! In Orlando they have a lovely cafe (I wish all your stores could have one!) We shopped and picked out what they wanted from the food bar and made ourselves comfortable. The "teachers" as my 3yr old call the staff are always so nice to the kids...my children love going to lunch there.

Dina says …

I love Whole Foods. I go to the Wheaton, IL location a lot. Lunch time is fabulous, the brick oven pizza & all of the premade food. My husband lives for the shrimp bar, I don't know anywhere else that has one! Oh, and the brie! What a great way to impress, they already have the nuts & fruits, I just bake it and party guests are impressed! My 2 year old daughter loves the fresh made guacamole. And the funny thing is, Whole Foods is the first place I found the nice reusable bags for cold & freezer items. I don;t think any store has reusable bags that compare! By the way, I am SOOOOOO excited you are opening a location in Schaumburg, IL, my family will be there several times a week!

I love Burt's Bees! I keep the original lip balm on me at all times, and after a tough day at work (after a hot bath) the peppermint foot lotion is amazing!

Nikki says …

I have always loved Whole Foods! Since m husband's cancer diagnoses in February, we have gone completely organic and mostly vegetarian. We have been spending a lot more time at Whole Foods. I love the produce section, bulk foods (hello beans!), we also get our flax there and wheat grass powder. I could go on and on… And I've started following Whole Foods on twitter :)

Carrie Duran says …

Our family has been liking the olive bar. My kids really like the greek olives stuffed with almonds. I am so surprised that they like the strong taste of the olives. In our store they have made a new greek olive tapanade that is really tasty. I have paired that with some hummus and pita bread and the family has enjoyed this light meal.

Linda Augustine says …

I am a whole foods woman, but a non-Mom. I believe that Mother's Day is a celebration of all women, because, let's face it: women mother -- we mother! We mother everyone, in so many ways, with all of our nurturing and thoughtfulness and genuineness. So, I am entering your contest. I am also a daughter and want to extol my own mother. My life changed dramatically for the better when I first walked into my first Whole Food store. It was the old Millburn, NJ store. Each time since then, whenever I want to visit paradise or the land of oz or enter a sanctuary or an oasis -- I get to a Whole Foods market. I have made a type-written list of all the Whole Foods markets in the area, with their street addresses and phone numbers. & I've been to 5 or 6, including, Edgewater! I am physically disabled with arthritis in both knees and am still ambulatory, so there I am humped over a shopping cart, going up & down each aisle, often more than once to catch all of the brands of delight. I use a handicapped bus service, Access Link, to take me around to all of the Whole Food stores. I am a very demanding and discerning shopper. Here are a few of my picks to indulge womanhood: 1. Scallop Tempura : Whole Foods Fish Market's Big, Succulent Sea Scallops. They are delicious & full of protein and a way to focus on a nutrition-rich meal. I buy about $10 worth almost every week & I make a light tempura batter with egg whites (using the fanciest eggs from Whole Foods -- Country Hen? 6 for @ $3.50, but the eggs are divine! I add some baking powder & Sicilian sea salt or Maldon salt (from Whole Foods) & a little cake flour. I slice the scallops horizontally into 3 discs for better frying. I don't indulge myself with fried foods other than this recipe. But, I feel so pampered with this treat that I don't need to have less exalted fried dishes. 2. MacNut macadamia nut oil or Whole Foods brand olive oil: I use a generous amount of these oils to quick-fry my Scallop tempura. 3. Meyer lemons -- Whole Foods is the only place where I can find these luscious, heavenly, aromatic fruit. I zest them & squeeze the juice -- & add a little mayonnaise & Whole Foods Turbinado sugar to make a dipping sauce for my Scallop Tempura. 4. Norwegian & Icelandic Waters -- I am thrilled at the selection of Nordic waters at Whole Foods. I lived in Scandinavia for over 7 years & I feel as though I'm back there when I drink those waters! I buy some every week, Voss, or Isbris? or the Icelandic water. The waters taste phenomenally good -- better than anything! 5. Lavash & the Herbal Leaf Mix -- I read a New York Times article some years ago of this Persian Mom who is in the NY area & she loves to take care of her grown kids who are all over here. I was inspired by her snack idea: always have fresh herbs on hand & wrap them up in some flatbread for a quick, healthy sandwich! Mara, I adore that Challah bread, too, but sometimes, it is too bumpy for a good, fast sandwich! 6. Vosges Barcelona Chocolate Bar -- this bar is one of the most divine I've ever tasted. The brand is pronounced "Voh-zze" & is expensive, but worth it. I break off a piece and let it dissolve over time in my mouth. There is sea salt in it which is amazing piquant. The chocolate is rich & velvety. 7. I love the European butters! Mara, I'm sorry, but I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever use a blend. For me, it's real butter or a top, top, top nut or olive oil, but nothing "ersatz." So, I am a freak about your butters: I don't care if they are more expensive than, say, banal Land o' Lakes. I am transported! I love the French butters, including the one from dairy-rich Brittany; the Irish Kerrygold makes me feel like I'm in a verdant lea in rural Ireland with the cows; I love the Icelandic butter! & Lurpak, the Danish butter. Domestically, Kate's butter, lightly sea-salted (I love that compound adjective -- sea-salted!) is wonderful. 8. Here, now is my decadent treat: I take a whole packet of blackberries from Whole Foods & dump them out onto a little platter (just for me!) & open up one or more whole containers of Liberté Mediterranée Wild Blackberry yogurt from Quebec on top & swirl it all around & have one of the most powerful meals I've ever had -- even more intense than the Scallops tempura! The fresh, succulent blackberries with the best, creamiest yogurt in the universe. Aaaaaah. It is gastronomically nuclear! 9. I adore your choice of poultry, especially, a high end brand called Pollo Rosso. I brine it at least for 24 hours, then roast it! Succulence again! The flavor, the texture.... 10. WF Blood Orange Italian Soda -- I rarely indulge myself with soda -- I've switched to water, generally. But, once in a while, I treat myself to a taste explosion! Oh! I wish I had some now! 11. I also adore your Membrillo, Spanish Quince paste with the Drunken Goat Cheese!!!! 12. I love, love, love your Olive bar! The succulent (once again!) pitted Green olives with garlic & those little, yellow, marinated peppers are a must! I also squish down the olives & add them & the yellow peppers to my lavash for a little sandwich! OK, now for the Body Products: 1. Simpler's Rose Hydrosol! This is the real, rose water -- the liquid left over from the distillation process of extracting the oil from the rose petal! I never use the Heritage brand, which is merely distilled water with some drops of rose oil in it. The real product is the Simpler's product. The can comes in a spray & you can hydrate your skin throughout the day with it. Also, it is a more effective hydrating product because I understand that the molecules of the rose "hydrosol," or "hydrolat," are smaller than water & can penetrate to a deeper degree into the skin, through more layers! Cool! 2. Dr. Hauschka Milky Cleanser. Sigh. There really is no other. It is expensive, but it lasts a long time & when you wash your face, it is like a religious ritual -- a prayerful time. Because the ingredients are so high quality, you truly are transported -- you transcend to higher realms! The other Dr. Hauschka product I love are the little ampules you can break open for special treatment -- amazing -- but they are pricey, too, but worth it! 3. Weleda Iris toner -- sigh. Another goodie (even though there is some alcohol in it --- but that is often the German way) ... still, the powerfully healing properties of the Iris flower are there for you! 4. Lemon or Orange essential oil -- I buy them & load up my Whole Foods dish liquid (I love that new brand -- Citradish! -- & my laundry detergents! Even though they already say they have oils in them -- I pack a real citrus punch with the fresh addition of these oils 5. Peppermint oil -- I rarely am without this oil or the spearmint because if I am feeling drowsy, all I need to do is unscrew the top & breathe in or dab the oil onto my pulse points. It is so much better & healthier than coffee! 6. Letting Go bath salts -- I discovered this little, humble-looking jar of aromatized mineral bath salts from Colorado -- I don't know the company name, but it is something "hippie-ish" -- Moon something? It runs about $4.99 for a smalll jar -- I love the "letting go" version -- it has peppermint, nutmeg, ginger & something else -- You dump the whole jar into the bath. It has changed my life! Something real & better has happened in my life right after the first use! I feel more relaxed generally! 7. Jarrow brand Co-enzyme Q-10! It is the most bioavailable around! & this nutrient is one of the most effective health-givers in the universe! We should all be loading up on CoQ10! Even Dr. Ronald Hoffman agrees! He says, Go Wild with CoQ10! & Jarrow is a phenomenal brand! OK, I've really gone on & on, enthusing! Oh, I also love your heirloom tomatoes! I slice & wrap in your Lavash!!!!! Thank you for providing us all, women (& men, & children & dogs...), moms and non-moms alike, with life-affirming, thoughtful, cheering, joyful, bliss-encouraging products & ambiences! I am a better Woman because I am a Whole Foods Woman! I mean it with all my heart. Thank you, all!!!!!!!

I love the salad bar. So much variety, but I wish there was more consistency. If I love a dish, I want to be able to go to Whole Foods at any time of the week/day and get it.

I think something sweet all day is the way to go for Mother's Day. Start with the Low Fat Cranberry Orange Muffins for breakfast, pack 365 Dark Chocolate Truffles for lunch, and finish the day with an absolutely gorgeous flower topped cupcake for dessert with dinner. That would make for a wonderfully sweet Mother's Day! Other than family, what more could you want?
