Help Us Celebrate $4 Million and Counting!

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS. CONGRATULATIONS TO TARA FROM ANN ANBOR, MICHIGAN! SHE'S THE WINNER OF THE LOCAL PRODUCT GIFT BASKET! Good news – as of this week, Whole Foods Market has funded $4 million in low-interest loans for small, local producers through our Local Producer Loan Program! Even better news – that money has helped our neighborhood farmers, bakers, artisans, mom-and-pop shops (you name it) grow their businesses and bring hundreds of high quality products into our stores for our customers to enjoy. The best news – to celebrate the milestone, we're giving away a basket full of goodies made by some of our loan recipients!  It's simple. Just enter a comment below by March 22nd telling us why you love your local producers and you have a chance to win! We’ll choose one lucky comment at random to receive the basket. Why did we start the Local Producer Loan Program? Whole Foods Market recognizes that small businesses (even with high quality products and a viable business plan) sometimes need a hand to reach their big dreams. So in 2007, we launched the Local Producer Loan Program with a commitment to fund up to $10 million dollars in low-interest loans. After all, it's our hard-working local producers and their unique offerings that give each of our stores its one-of-a-kind flavor and pizzazz. Check out what's in this bountiful basket. And remember, since these products are made by local stars from all across the country, you may not be able to find them at your local store. All the more reason to post your comment by March 22nd for a chance to give these great local favorites a try.

Everything at whole foods is beautifully displayed. The colors of the produce are vibrant. Inspiration in menu planning is much easier because you can depend on great quality. We've run a family business for forty years and know the heart you put into it. In addition your customers become your friends. Great taste, friendly people - it's as good as it gets!

I love local produce because you know where it comes from and it taste better. I have three children and it also is a great way for them to learn about supporting our local farmers. We have taken our children to farms to show our children what it takes to grow the yummy fruit and veggies that we buy for them.

I support local, fresher produce vs. food that's been trucked, flown, shipped, and handled a jillion times before I get the chance to buy it.

Buy LOCAL, this shouldn't even be a discussion, it should be a given. This is the way it used to be and should continue to be. Locally farm grown products help everyone and everything. Remember from garden to plate, helps the economy and the food tastes better, what more could we ask for. Thank you local farmers.

Supporting local suppliers is a great idea - it not only supports the local suppliers, but reduces transportation costs and we get the freshest products and new things to try.

Alison says …

Local makes sense on so many levels. Buying foods close to home keeps transportation costs down, and gives us fresher food. It helps to keep people who know what "real food" is in business and it keeps business in our area. I always try to support farmers/businesses who are working to make less of an imprint on our environment as well.

Kathy says …

I LOVE my local producers for a few reasons. The quality is always PERFECT, everything is so fresh AND I'm putting back into my local economy. I know my local producers are putting care into what they do to give me and my family the best product possible. They care. National producers don't care about me, just the money. So it's worth it to pay more for my local producers knowing that I'm getting great products every time. I'm buying peace of mine. Thank you Whole Foods!!!!

Gert Conklin says …

I honor my late Father when I shop and buy from local producers. I always enjoyed the sharing of the harvest from his garden so I know the difference between fresh and not so fresh!!

Michele says …

Buying local is knowing where my food comes from and knowing the people who grow it. It always tastes better and is better for me and the environment.

Donna says …

Every purchase is supporting your neighbor or the family down the street. Plus the products are high quality.

melanie says …

We love our local producers because the joy of what they do permeates the food that they grow. It is grown with good intentions and that energy is definitely present in their food. It is beautiful and fresh and the growers are always friendly and open to discussions and questions.

Gary Rhine says …

I always choose local because it is the freshest with maximum nutrients maintained.

Alison says …

Buying locally grown foods means your food doesn't have to travel very far to get to your kitchen, which is good for the environment and for the freshness of your food.

Mary says …

I love my local producers because they produce a quality I can trust. I love getting veggies and fresh chicken from my local farmer's market. It's always top-notch quality at reasonable prices. I've never once gotten home and discovered the chicken was rancid (which has happened to me several times before from conventional grocery stores). And the veggies are just beautiful. No, every apple doesn't look just like the one next to it, but that's how you know it's real food. :)

Kate says …

Buying local encourages community pride. I'm happy to purchase from local producers. Thanks, Whole Foods, for providing access to these great products!

Vanessa says …

My local producers give back to the community and I love the one-on-one interaction with someone who had a hand in making the end product!

Katie D. says …

I love knowing the people who made my food - it makes it so much more special.

Mary says …

I love buying local because I love knowing that my food is fresh, as well as the positive vibes I get knowing that I'm helping the economy in my own town.

Annie L. says …

I love my local producers because I feel connected to the products; the same way that going to the Union Square farmer's market makes the product come alive, buying from local products sold at Whole Foods feels like contributing to the health of my neighborhood.

Deanna Ibarra says …

Locally grown produce is so fresh and yummy! Plus it saves the enviornment, since it doesnt have to be shipped accross the country. I recently went to Florida and was frustrated at the fact that only one of five stores I visited had Florida oranges. The rest were from California, why waste all that gas and money shipping accross the country when there local oranges were so yummy. I know California oranges are delicious because I live here, but I didnt expect to find them there:)

Erin from Long Island says …
