I support local farmer that do sustainable farming and use as little pesticides as possible. Bedner's Farm Market on St. Rd. 7 in Boynton Beach Fl. really cares about his community. You should try them out as they also sell some organic too.

Buying locally helps the environment •It is wonderful to benefit from fresh fruit and vegis that have not lost their nutritional value as a result of long travel time and excessive and often inconsistent storage conditions. •In addition, eating locally may have the added benefit of decreasing global warming. -According to one author, "The number one thing you can do as a consumer to cut your energy expenditure and CO2 output is to eat food produced as locally as possible," says Pete Anderson, a University of Wisconsin-Madison lecturer in nutritional sciences. According to Anderson, a lot of food is high in water content and requires refrigerated trucks to be transported across the country. As the distribution trucks burn gasoline moving from city to city, they pump carbon emissions into the atmosphere and more carbon dioxide in the air. The result: possibly more global warming. Anderson says buying locally to help the environment is far from a sacrifice. In fact, local foods are better for consumer health and diet, and help support the local economy. Buying local is delicious! Produce is fresh and fabulous and hasn't been hauled for days in a truck! And so it's way more nutritious! And you can feel good supporting the local economy and helping ethically sustained farms stay in business!!

I love my local producers because they represent the tastes and preferences of the community. I'm so glad Whole Foods has made itself a second storefront for many of these small companies.

Greetings: It's a wonderful thing to be able to purchase quality foods from local producers!! One of my favorites is purchasing beef products where the cows have been grass-fed. It's alarming that unhealthy ingredients are placed in food products, as well as some entities not practicing adequate standards for feeding/raising livestock. How can one determine what food items to consume and ones to avoid? Why should we have such a problem with food content that we need to worry so much, anyway?

Fresh from farm to local farm market, local producers offer the best in flavor, nutrition and value! Local producers love what they do and we love what they produce. Their Knox County melons can't be topped anywhere!

I just love my local producers because I grew up in a small town and we used to have a large garden with fresh fruits and vegetables available every day. We never sprayed our garden with pesticides or non-organic fertilizers. I do not have the time to grow fresh vegetables and fruits living in the large city of Dallas, so having them available through Whole Foods and knowing I can trust them to be organic and super fresh is worth paying extra for the flavor of home grown meats and produce.

I'm glad you are doing this. Local foods are way better than organic in my view because you can talk with the producer and tastes awesome! But I'm just curious. PA is the 4th largest producer of apples in the country. I walked in to the Plymouth Meeting PA store a few weeks ago (in February) and all your apples were from Washington. Any insights on this? My local apple farms are offering specials on their apples this time of year, so there doesn't seem to be a shortage of local apples.
