Kids World Party

Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

I'm a first grade teacher and my students (and I) would looove to have this collection in our room! The most fun kids' party I created was the celebration held at the end of our unit on breakfast/nutrition. We all wore our pajamas and had lots of (healthful) breakfast foods to talk about and eat and share with the parents who were able to come. We also had a Breakfast in Bed relay race where the children had to race to one end of a field, choose a plastic food that was high in (e.g. calcium) and run it back to the next racer who was laying down under a blanket "in bed." They loved it!

Love all the putumayo CDs. It's like taking a trip around the world without leaving home. The artwork is vibrant, colorful and always makes me smile! It would be fun to have a children's cd to listen with my nieces and nephews

Would love for my grandson! We play lots of music and he really gets into it. He'll be 3 soon, and I'm uncertain of this year's b-day theme, but his mom is very creative, and able to pick a theme and make all the party fixins' herself.

My daughter wanted a bowling party at the fancy bowling alley close to our house. After much deliberation, I finally agreed to let her have her wish. The day we arrived at the bowling alley we found out that the entire place has been rented for a private party and we couldn't even get in. So, thinking quickly we decided to take all her friends to the nail salon first to get their nails done, the owners were very friendly and accommodated us even after hours until all the girls had their nails done. Then we went home, played a few games and the girls all decided to have a dancing performance as teams. They all picked their partners practiced a few times, we ate the cake and celebrated, then it was time to perform. The girls took turns performing and cheering for each other, they had such a great time that by the time their parents came to pick them up, they did not want to leave, they wanted to show their parents their performances. Everyone had a great time and the girls talked for days about the party at school. At the end we did not need a fancy place to celebrate, just a little music and lot of imagination.

I loved a recent one in which my nephew had a whole gymboree setup- perfect to entertain the various age groups in attendance, and as a bonus for the parents, ended up wearing out the little ones from the excitement.

Best kids party we ever hosted was at a local park. Best part about it was how many friends that were able to come. We moved to a new state the next day so it was a great way to have a last hurrah!

My daughters make up the themes for their birthday parties. Last year Carrie (age 5) combined her two favorite things, and we through a big ole' Chinese horse party. There was a horse (pony) for kids to ride. The decorations were red Chinese lanterns. The cake had a horse plus the Chinese symbol for horse on it. For party favors, we gave chopsticks with farm animals on them. Needless to say, the daughter came up with all these ideas! It was memorable. Exposing American children to music from around the world. Giving them something the average radio station can't give. Now, that is a good thing.

As a teacher in a public school in an urban area, I think anything that helps students to think multiculturally is a wonderful thing. As a MUSIC teacher in a public school in an urban area, I think any music that introduces students to other cultures is a plus. With familiarity comes understanding, and with understanding comes empathy. In fact, I own some of their earlier CDs. Go Putumayo!

We just celebrated my granddaughters 3rd birthday, I cannot believe it. We had decided with the color and of her dress, she had to have a laua party, complete with grass skirts and coconut tops, she had a blast and so we decided to have her pictures also done in the same theme. They came out so cute. Happy Birthday to my darling little girl.

I absolutely LOVE Putumayo's music!!!! I have been a long time fan of the company and share their music with my friends and their children, often buying them as gifts. It is a beautiful way to learn about cultures without travelling. Though you may not always understand all the lyrics, you can concentrate on the sounds of instruments and voices. I recommend this to anyone who appreciates true music!

An old school roller skating party, with great music of course! Fun, fun, fun!!

One of the best kids party we have been to so far was a Tutus and Capes party. The host played kids music throughout the party and had craft stations for the kids to decorate their favor bags then the girls made tutus and the boys made capes. Oh and there was a station where they could get their face painted too. My daughter had a great time. Thanks for the opportunity to try to win the Putamayo CD set - we love them!

World Music is the best! Putumayo's collection of music brings life to even a stay-at-home day!

Paula Messer says …

Best kid's party? In the backyard with friends and family, grooving to the sounds of Putumayo. A Putu fan long before I had a daughter, and now, so glad that even though my 10-year old enjoys the "grown-up" Putamayo CD's, that we have purchased several "kid's" selections which she equally enjoys. AND, I feel good knowing that I can expose her to a wonderful array of global music that wins out on her playlist over the teenage trashy music that some many of her preteen often get sucked into. Keep 'em coming, Putumayo!

Love the Putmayo Kids CDs! Our local library even stockes the ones we don't have. The best child's birthday party I ever threw was at a local farm - DD Ranch in Terrebonne, OR - with a crazy homespun playground that included hay mazes, crazy homemade slides made from irrigation tubing, and even donkeys who ate our directional signage.

Just got one of them recently and have fallen in love. With a baby on the way in October, I'd love to score the whole set! Thanks for the opportunity WF!

Eugenia Chavez says …

My 2.5 year old loves to dance. When I tell him no tv, he starts dancing to indicate that I play music for him instead. I would LOVE to have this for him!

What a fun way to remind children that music is an international language!

I teach Elementary Physical Education, and we use music in our lessons to help motivate students to promote healthy habits. We have an activity based music party once a week where they enjoy dancing, hula hooping, jump ropes, juggling and other active games. With the recent budget cuts our funding is all out of our own pocket. It would be great add this wonderful CD set to our Physical Education Program.

Mike H says …

My son had the greatest party for his 1 year old daughter where they played in a bouncy house and a kiddy pool and even though it rained, everyone had a great time because it's about family and friends........... and that is why it was the best party ever.

stephanie t says …

This CD would be ideal for my 8th Annual Fiesta Party, we have a kids area and pinata for them, they have their own CD player to play their music. How fun would this be.

Ross says …

We love the Putumayo albums. Glad they have some new ones coming out!

Joanne says …

The best kids party I went to was a BIKE party. Our friends had the festivities at a park that had a paved sidewalk circling it. They set up mini orange cones, a blow-up rainbow arch, a small ramp, and other obstacles for kids (and grown ups) to bike up, around, over, and under. And of course the cake was dirt-bike themed with lots of oreo cookies.

When my daughter was 3 she was facinated with bugs and insects. We threw her a bug birthday party, with everything being bug themed. We had a butterfly bouncer, and hundreds of thousands live ladybugs which we set free in our backyard to care for our garden.

Sponsored a local musician to lead a drum circle at our local library. It was a hit!

Lisa says …

My kids are still little, so we have not had to do anything creative yet. The biggest hit is having the party at the local farm with hayrides and/or pony rides. The farm animal theme is easy to make games up as well.

I use the Putumayo World Lullaby CD to put my kids to sleep - love it!

Susie says …

My favorite parties are simple. Kids running around the backyard on a shady summer afternoon, playing tag or imagination games, with balls or sprinklers. Family and good friends, good food on the grill, some great music. Roasting marshmallows over a bonfire while it gets dark and chasing fireflys. I think these CD's would fit our summer neighborhood parties perfectly!

Susan Swyt says …

Putumayo's music is something we can all enjoy on car trips without anyone threatening to throw themselves from the car. I'm pretty sure Barney the Dinosaur can't make the same claim.

Becky says …

My kids LOVE Putumayo World Music!:) (both kids and the adult cds) We have a few!
