New Putumayo: Acoustic Dreamland

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS! CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHAEL DIPIETRO FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WINNING THE 5-CD SET FROM PUTUMAYO'S "DREAMLAND" SERIES. Read on to enter to win a 5-CD set from Putumayo’s Dreamland series. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Over the years, Putumayo Kids, which began in 1999, has released 20 CD collections to help introduce children to other cultures through fun music from around the world. Though best known for its fun, upbeat Playground series, Putumayo Kids has been quietly releasing albums that have become staples for parents to help their young children fall asleep. Surprisingly, parents have enjoyed these Dreamland CDs as much as their kids! They help just about anyone relax and wind down after the stresses of the day. With Acoustic Dreamland, I wanted to bring together beautiful English-language songs recorded by some off my favorite performers of adult and children’s music. We’ve also included a mini-storybook featuring the lyrics of the song Dreamland that parents and children can read or sing along to. Written by Mary Chapin Carpenter and sung by Lucy Kaplansky, it’s a lovely tale of falling asleep and dreaming of distant places. I’ve tested these songs on my 5-year-old son and they have really helped him ease into sleep. In addition to original songs, the collection also features songs written by James Taylor (You Can Close Your Eyes), Allman Brothers (Blue Sky) and Wilco (My Darling). You’ll find Acoustic Dreamland in most Whole Foods Market stores now. Do you like to fall asleep listening to music? What are your favorite relaxing tunes? Leave a comment below by March 8th for a chance to win a 5 CD collection from our Dreamland series.

I began listening to soft music at bed time about 10 years ago. It really helps me relax before sleeping. I'm beginning to do this for my 15 mo. old little boy to help him go to sleep.

I enjoy relaxing to Enya, Fairy Nightsongs, and a Hewlett Crist CD called Rio Grande songs - all accoustic guitar. My grandbabies love listening to music and have always gone to sleep to a variety of tunes...as well as spoken words. Nothing made them (or my now 26 year old son) go to sleep faster than listening to a narrated set of Eric Carle stories. My older son also liked to listen to Carly Simon Live when he was 3 to get to sleep :-) We love sleeping to music!

I have worked in an all day preschool program & the children have a daily rest time. I have one Putumayo CD that I like to put on during this time. It is VERY relaxing for the children and the adults! I look forward to experiencing the other selections.

No, I don't like to actually fall asleep to music but I do love relaxing music; mellow stuff by James Taylor, Enya, so many different artists!

We love listening to a variety of music at bedtime (anytime for that matter) But, currently my son is enjoying the piano being played by his big sis. :)

I'm looking forward to introducing these beautiful songs to my little ones. Anything that can help sleep along is welcome in my home these days.

Who doesn't need help these days relaxing and unwinding after a stressful day. Lately I've been playing a Secret Garden mix on Pandora.

I love Putumayo CDs and so does my 11-month-old son, his favourites being Animal Playground and French Playground. Before each naptime, I like to create a nice relaxing atmosphere for him by playing either one of Putumayo Lounge CDs or some jazz music (Diana Krall, Hedvig Hanson etc), but I would definately like to check out Dreamlands as well, as I am sure my son would enjoy their music!

My 3 year old little son and my husband both need soft tranquil instrumental music to fall asleep. I, on the other hand, will fall asleep anywhere at any point regardless of noise or music. I do love to listen to soft instrumental music when I relax or meditate. My favorite songs are from Enigma. I often listen to Pandora radio.

I could use music like this to play with my preschool kids during transitions, to helo them ease into the next activity, or cool down after a busy recess!! I wish I'd known about this when my own son was little!

Music from Lullaby: A Collection is the soundtrack from my early days as a new mother cradling an infant who refused to sleep any place other than my arms. More than eight years later, I still find the music from this CD soothing, if not to my child, at least to my frayed nerves as I negotiate different parenting challenges.

Putumayo has great collections of ethnic/world music performers. Any songs with soothing melodies can be arranged to make good bedtime music. I don't use music myself to go to sleep [I sometimes do reiki self-treatment to prepare to sleep]though it helps a lot of people. If I did use music for sleep I'd want something ambient and mesmerizing, with binaural tones embedded to help slow down brainwaves.

Well, I can't seem to get Plain White T's "Rhythm of Love" out of my head lately, and that one is totally kick-back. I love acoustic music; before my husband was my husband, he would (and still does, on occasion) play his guitar and sing quietly as it relaxed both of us. Now our daughter is 4, and is a natural music lover like her parents. I have Putumayo World Playground that has charmed children under my care for years. Hoping to pick up several more albums (Hawaiian, as is hub's heritage, for one). So enjoyable.

I watch the news before bed (awful, I know!) but on Friday nights, it's all music, all the time. More important, I would appreciate this lovely collection for friends who just had the tiniest, loveliest baby!

Tina says …

What a wonderful way to lull the whole family to a peaceful slumber. Exactly what everyone needs after a hard day of work and play.

Nancy says …

I've given and received several Putamayo CDs over the years, and this set would make a lovely gift for my godson.

Jim Dewey says …

Playing music is the best way have playtime with the little guy. At age 2, he could select his own cds and play them in his player. At 3, he can sing them -- and in key which I can't do (it's embarrassing). Putamayo are the best and I feel confident and safe with my child playing them at any time, day or night -- and he prefers I not try to sing along with him.

Dustin Boeger says …

We've used a Putumayo cd to help our boys sleep/calm down for years. I love it, and they call it the Nadeenaaah songs.

Kelly says …

I like to play music to help my two little ones relax and fall asleep. Sometimes we use natural sounds... like ocean waves or rain, but other times it is good to have a nice relaxing CD to listen to.

Kris G says …

I only fall asleep to music once in a great while. When I do I like nature sounds, smooth jazz or classical.

AndreaT says …

Our family loves Putamayo, and "Asian Dreamland" is a favorite for night-night time. For anfternoon naps, my 3-yr-old actually requests classical music on the radio, or as he calls it, "the sleepy music with no singing".

Rosalie Beauchamp says …

I love putumayo and since having a new baby I have been looking for beautiful, relaxing and dream provoking music to put her to sleep to. It would be wonderful to win!

maryann says …

Listening to soothing music like Enya or a nature CD is the best way to drift off to sleep.

Judy Kinal says …

I love to fall asleep listening to harp music. Sounds of flutes and nature are also very relaxing.

Melissa says …

Ever since my college days of living in a LOUD city dorm (over 15 years ago now...) I've fallen asleep to Enya and the Indigo Girls. These days, my 3 yr old falls aslepp to a playlist with Enya, the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter (with a few others.)

Jennifer K says …

Anything that helps my kids go to sleep is great!

john magnani says …

I like your music as an alternative to American pop.

Barbara Topf says …

Who doesn't love music?

Katelyn says …

Need to get one of these for 7-year-old baby sister

Jana says …

Everynight I play a lullaby CD put out by Pottery Barn Kids called, "In Search of Goodnight". It is a beautiful compilation of lullabies from around the word. My favorites are, "A La Puerta del Cielo" and "Thula Mtwana". When the music starts my 9 month old daughter is instantly ready for bed. My 3 year-old step-daughter loves it too!

Mark says …

We try to introduce our 2 year old to music from different countries by listening to music from around the world on iTunes radio. Since there are so many stations, it can be somewhat hit or miss. Putomayo CD's would be a great way to expose her to beautiful music from around the world.

Mayra Temes says …

I love to fall asleep with the sound of the water. It's relaxing. Night, night. Mayra

Drew says …

I have listened to samples of these "Dreamland" songs and acoustic must be the best one of all, in my opinion that is.

Nicko says …

When I bought "Yoga." I felt very relaxed listening to the music in a very peaceful manor. In my opinion, if I listen to all of the songs from the "Dreamland" series, it would really help me release my stress, especially since I am in high school.
